Teaching a new language to children can come with many challenges because there is limited time and sometimes limited attention spans. To effectively teach a new language, children need to have a feeling of confidence in the fact that they can perform what they are being taught, and the element of having fun while learning. Children, just like adults, need repetition to effectively learn a task. Repetition Repetition alias Drilling: Is it an Effective Way to Remember Language Points? will allow a child to mentally prepare themselves for a task that will happen at a certain time of the day, therefore they can begin to anticipate what their... These 3 Simple Tips Will Help You to Become a Favorite Teacher
Establishing rapport with your students is crucial for many reasons. Merriam-Webster's online dictionary defines rapport as "a friendly, harmonious relationship especially: a relationship characterized by agreement, mutual understanding, or empathy that makes communication possible or easy." This means that establishing rapport is like laying a foundation for understanding and communication. One of the most fundamental purposes of any language is to provide a way to understand and communicate with other people. Taking the time to establish rapport is simply the first step to laying a foundation for teaching and learning a language. A true teacher does not teach a... [Read more]

So what exactly does it mean to be a Teacher?
When I was still studying at the secondary level and about to enter college, a lot of people asked me if I was sure about my decision to take education as my course. Here in the Philippines, teachers do not get a high salary despite doing a lot of paperwork and a very stressful job. Maybe this is the reason why they asked me about my chosen profession and even I asked myself too, but I love to help. Being a teacher is not just about teaching lessons from the book and completing what must be supposed to be accomplished in the objectives of the lesson plan. The word "teacher" is very broad and everyone should be aware of that. Like what I said, the teacher's job is not just to teach but... [Read more]

Learning Teaching Skills: What Does it Take to be an Effective Teacher?
Two years ago, I found myself in a remote village deep into the Himalayan Mountains in northern India. I had traveled there with the intention of volunteering in a daycare center in a Thibetan village. When I got there, I was informed that the daycare did not need help, but would I be willing to teach English to the monastery's young monks? I was very nervous at first, as I had no experience with this! Seeing their need, however, I reluctantly agreed. So I spent the next three months teaching what I could, however I could, albeit in a very disjointed and unknowledgeable way.
