Buenos Aires in summary

Buenos Aires is a huge city of 17 million people and an excellent big city destination for TEFL Certification and Spanish immersion.
Must see: The beautiful Recoleta Cemetary is an absolute must see.
Tango: We highly recommend going to La Viruta one night when they have either a tango or salsa lesson. This is a great Buenos Aires experience.
Best restaurants: The best and trendiest restaurants are in an area called Las Cañitas in the Palermo neighbourhood.
Where to stay? We recommend staying in Recoleta, Palermo or Barrio Norte.
Fun: There are of course lots of nightclubs which start late and go till dawn.
Means of Transportation: Ride the subway known locally as subte.
Be careful! The city is generally safe but use common sense and don't walk around with expensive jewelry or a Rolex.
What to eat? Be sure to eat medialunas for breakfast and empanadas for lunch.

    Close

The final two weeks are spent on lesson planning and teaching practice. On the first day of your course you should arrive for orientation at 10:00 a.m. At this time you will be given a detailed course timetable.

  • What can I expect during teaching practice?

  • Who usually attends the course?

  • Is there a dress code?

    Close

When you are making decisions about what clothing to bring there are a few points worth bearing in mind. TEFL/Buenos Aires classes and practice teaching sessions are conducted in a modern business and professional area of the city. People in Buenos Aires take their professional roles seriously and dress more formally than is the custom in the US. Even children going off to school are sent off by their parents neatly dressed with shoes polished and hair carefully groomed. Overly casual dress may be interpreted as a sign of indifference or lack of professionalism. In the classroom this may cost you the respect of your students. In an interview it could cost you a job. Generally speaking in Buenos Aires dress is more ‘smart’ than ‘casual’. Therefore, both at the training center and during teaching practice sessions we request that you bend to these cultural differences and respect the following guidelines.

Women: Knee length or longer skirts and tailored pants (including cropped pants and capris) are appropriate. Shirts should be modest with shoulders covered. Plunging necklines, bare midriffs, see-thru fabrics, spaghetti straps and T shirts with logos are not acceptable. Sandals are acceptable but flip flops and athletic shoes are not.

Men: Long pants, with the exception of jeans, are the norm. Shirts with collars, either long or short sleeved, are acceptable. Shirts are tucked in and generally belts are worn. Sandals and sport shoes are not worn by men in the workplace. Although ties are not required you may want to bring one. Many men wear casual sport coats so if you have ever imagined experimenting with this style of dress this is the perfect opportunity!

For both men and women a few casual clothing items will come in handy for evenings out, lounging at home and weekend excursions. Bear in mind the weather conditions during the time you are intending to be in Buenos Aires. They vary from season to season.

  • What should I bring for course studies?

    Close

Please be sure to arrive on the first day of the course with a notebook and a pen. We also encourage you to bring a laptop as we have Wi-Fi at the training center. We will provide all course materials for you so there is no need to bring anything else for the course itself.
