Why Preparing a Plan is Compulsory for New Teachers
Lesson planning is one of the most important elements of successful teaching in the ESL (English as Second Language) classroom and every TEFL (Teaching English as Foreign Language) lesson needs a plan, particularly so in the case of the less experienced teacher starting their career in a foreign country. The often-cited argument that over planning can create a less fluent atmosphere in the classroom does hold some truth but just as the artist is tutored not to attempt abstract art until first mastering the art of realism, the teacher likewise is best placed not to address a class unprepared until first mastering the art of pre-planning.

Lesson Planning as a Matter of Perfect Classroom Experience
Lesson planning is a topic that has a lot of controversy in the teaching community. A lot of people believe that lesson planning is a waste of time and some believe that it is the most important thing to have when conducting lessons in a classroom. According to the E-learning Network, "Lesson planning is a significant element of the teaching-learning system. A lesson plan is a step-by-step guide that provides a structure for essential learning. Before planning a lesson, it is essential to classify the learning outcomes for the class. It is important because it helps the teacher in maintaining a standard teaching pattern and does not let the class deviate from the topic."... [Read more]

Suggestions on How to Improve Your Self-Esteem as a Teacher
Teachers are no different from anyone else when it comes to feeling nervous about embarking on a new venture. Whether it's an inexperienced teacher walking into his/her first classroom, an experienced teacher to teach English to foreign students in a foreign country, or a person walking onto a stage to address an audience of his/her peers for the first time; they are out of their comfort zone, moving into a place that they've never been to before, not knowing what to expect or exactly what will happen. There is a churning feeling in the pit of their stomachs and an almost overwhelming fear of failure. The most seasoned of professionals will tell you that this nervousness... [Read more]

A Teacher’s Role in a Classroom's Daily Life
A teacher who teaches students in an environment using their native language will play various roles in the classroom. My interpretation of these roles includes their abilities to facilitate and manage learning through their personalities, have an understanding of their student's needs while also being a genuine messenger. As a manager, it is the teacher's responsibility to control the environment and organization of the classroom, the students' behavior, and the class syllabus. As a messenger, it is the teacher's responsibility to deliver the content on the syllabus to the students to improve their reading and writing abilities. We can, therefore, summarize the main role of a teacher... [Read more]

Useful Teaching Ideas for EFL Kindergartens in China
Working as an English teacher in the kindergarten is very entertaining and challenging, as the teacher will deal with the children who don't have even a basic knowledge of English, have the very short attention span and very different in terms of their behavior. Before I moved to China, I haven't prior experience in teaching the kindergarten level students, because I always thought that teaching the young learners would be annoying, hard to discipline and far too energy-consuming. So what I had learned was just through my own experience.

Why Should I Complete a TEFL Course?
As a secondary English teacher, there is one question that I kept asking myself "Why complete a TEFL course?" I have had years of experience teaching English literature, figures of speech, the technical aspect of academic English which are the structure of sentences, different tenses, etc. However, Teaching English as a Foreign Language is different from teaching academic English subject. Completing a TEFL course made me realized that it is better for students to learn faster and understand better on how students will be able to communicate to the outside world using the English language.

Why it is Important to Complete a TEFL Course
People may think that taking a TEFL course is not necessary to be a good teacher. Along with that, TEFL courses cost both time and money, so, understandably, people question whether it is even worth it to take the course. Although many people have become successful teachers without taking a TEFL course, these courses can provide teachers and aspiring teachers tips for managing a class and creating a more efficient lesson plan. Also, when teaching English in a foreign country, knowledge of the English language is not the only thing someone needs to know; teachers need to be aware of a variety of issues that can arise when teaching in a foreign country. The Lowdown On Teaching EFL in a Kindergarten
According to Jeanne Et Al (2009: 284) teachers are regarded as one of the most important socialization factors in every society in the world. A world without teachers would be a black hole without any fruitful improvements. Kindergarten English teachers are regarded as the backbone of any form of language acquisition as people climb the academic ladder. This is the first stage that children are exposed to a language that is completely foreign to them. Children at this stage are just beginning to become comfortable with one language and introducing a new language, especially one as complex as English, can, therefore, be difficult.

3 Reasons Why Students Get Motivated to Learn a Foreign Language
Increasing student motivation in the classroom is closely tied to student-teacher rapport. Throughout my career as a classroom teacher and lacrosse coach, I have found that students perform better for teachers they "like". I use quotations on the word "like" because I believe it is a student's way of expressing a strong relationship built on trust and respect with their teacher. Students will also perform better in classes they "like" as well. In this sense, I believe students are attempting to explain that the class they "like" is engaging and relevant to them. As a high school and middle school lacrosse coach, I have had the unique opportunity to talk with my... [Read more]
