Teaching English to Groups and Individuals - TEFL Blog
Elizaveta Pachina
Teaching Ideas
To begin with, I will like to explain what one to one teaching method is all about. One to one teaching is a method involving the teacher and a single learner. In this methodology, the learner has the constant attention of the teacher since he or she is not competing for the teacher's attention. While learning in a one to one method, strengths and weaknesses are easily identified and are addressed more consistently and fully without the competition of other students for the teacher's time.

5 Advantages and Disadvantages of Teaching Business English - TEFL Blog
Jon ITTT
Alumni Experiences
Teaching "Business English" is an interesting context for an English teacher. A lot of teachers are concerned about teaching in this context because they think that they need detailed knowledge or experience about business. Even though a knowledge of business is useful, it is not the number one skill or ability a teacher should have. On the contrary, there is nothing to fear as essentially you are still an English teacher and your students (clients) often have the business knowledge they need, but can just not express themselves in English. So it is all about adapting and taking your normal teaching approach from the general English class, and making it work in the business context. A teacher should remember that he/she is not there to teach students... [Read more]

Teaching Styles and Methods - TEFL Blog

Teaching styles can vary drastically and no one style is king. Over time and in different parts of the world different styles have risen to prominence while others lose favor. The effectiveness of a teaching style depends on the students, their need, the language they are being taught, the language they are being taught in, and many other factors. Effective teachers will be familiar with different styles and the various methods introduced in each style. They will be capable of creating their own unique style based on what is most effective for their situation. The following methodologies of teaching all have their strengths and weaknesses, most are found to be outdated or overly flawed but we can still learn and adapt using elements of these styles.... The Vietnamese government has been pushing to improve English language proficiency all across Vietnam in recent years, which has led to a boom in ESL teaching jobs. Vietnam has a lot to offer: a mix of cosmopolitan cities, laid back beaches, and lush tropical countryside. This relaxed way of life is only one of the many reasons why an increasing number of teachers decide to move to Vietnam. Therefore, it's no surprise that Vietnam is currently one of the fastest growing EFL markets in the world.

The Relevance and Impact of Computer-Aided Language Learning in Teaching English
Elizaveta Pachina
Teaching Ideas
Today's technology-based society has a significant impact on how English is both experienced and taught. A great number of professionals spend a large part of their day on the Internet and interacting with all that it and ICT, in general, has to offer. Through it, they absorb information, generate knowledge and are both indirectly and directly educated and influenced. Computer-assisted language learning tools provide us with a vast number of resources that we can use both in the classroom when teaching collective language lessons or in a group and individual students assignments. I would like to elaborate on different aspects of Computer-Aided Language Learning (CALL), some of which were highlighted in the ITTT Business English unit.

Unique Challenges and Advantages of Teaching Beginner English Students - TEFL Blog
Elizaveta Pachina
Teaching Ideas
Beginner-level students of English offer both challenges as well as advantages. As they are beginners, it is very easy to see quick progress, which is motivating to both the student as well as the teacher. Since they have little to no experience in English, it is you who is introducing them to the language; therefore, you can teach them before they learn bad habits. However, there are also disadvantages. One is that if you are not proficient in their language, it will be very difficult to communicate with them at all unless an assistant is used. Another is that it will be very easy for them to revert to their native language, given their lack of ability to use English. Overall, however, the advantages far outweigh the disadvantages and give the English... [Read more]
Teaching English in the Kindergarten Setting: Principles and Challenges - TEFL Blog
Elizaveta Pachina
Teaching Ideas
English has become a worldwide language, leading to early learning of English in the school context is becoming more common nowadays. It has been suggested that children should master their mother tongue before moving on to their second language. However, if you learn a language after the age of seven, you can never turn it into your mother tongue. You should learn it as soon as possible. After that age, they won't learn it the same way as they do their native language. This is the reason why there are more and more kindergartens teaching English and what does a teacher need to put in mind when teaching EFL for children?

Creating and Adapting Teaching Materials - TEFL Blog

Teaching Ideas
Nothing ever comes to be without being created first. The same can be said for any lesson, without creating the materials to be used in the lesson it would be difficult for any teacher to deliver their intended lesson to students. Then one would ask the question of why is it important to create and adapt teaching materials if some already exist.in as much as using already available materials saves time and expense, it is not always effective because the materials not be intended for that specific target group and would not deliver the intended impact if not hinder it all together. Therefore materials need adjusting or adapting them to suit the requirements of the students.
