Cultivating the Reading Culture in the ESL Setting - TEFL Blog

Tue, 07 Jul 2020 Elizaveta Pachina Teaching Ideas Cultivating the Reading Culture in the ESL Setting A leader must read to expand his scope of knowledge, to keep abreast of what is happening in his field of expertise and around the world. Reading stimulates one's thinking and processing. Before we develop a child in his leadership ability, we must develop something more foundational – the love for reading. As an educator, I believe reading develops inquisitiveness, which in turn, develops the interest to engage, hence build confidence, even at a young age. And in the process, to nurture the child towards leadership ability. This post was written by our TEFL certification graduate Katherine C. How to Increase Children’s Interest in Reading? - TEFL Blog

Fri, 15 Nov 2019 Elizaveta Pachina Teaching Ideas How to Increase Children’s Interest in Reading? ESL Lessons in a Fun Way: ✅ The Secret Revealed - TEFL Blog

Tue, 23 Feb 2021 Elizaveta Pachina TEFL Information Alumni Experiences Teaching Ideas ESL Lessons in a Fun Way: ✅ The Secret Revealed It is effortless to get into a rhythm of teaching a certain way and relying heavily on your resources at hand. As a relatively new teacher, I spend a lot of time with the help (mainly books) I am provided, and in lessons, I teach the content necessary to complete a given objective. I often rely on the readers for additional activities, transitions, and traditional book work. While the students never spend the entire class with their noses in the books, I felt that we were not having quite as much fun as we could. Studies began to feel a bit stale, and interest seemed to be diminishing. So, I decided to conduct a small experiment and discovered...  [Read more]

Why Reading is a Skill to Teach in ESL Education - TEFL Blog

Thu, 25 Mar 2021 Elizaveta Pachina TEFL Information Alumni Experiences Teaching Ideas Why Reading is a Skill to Teach in ESL Education Readers are for sure leaders, not just merely for the fact of reading, but for the thinking process that comes with reading. As an individual, I love reading. I love the smell of the book paper. The tiny letters and turning another page is something that I enjoy deeply. However, I didn't become an avid reader by chance. I become a reader because I was born in a family where reading was a natural thing. My father was a university professor and was reading all the time. My mother, an accounting expert, used to read laws and regulations to ensure that her work is respecting the law. This post was written by our TEFL certification graduate Gentiana H....  [Read more]

ESA Principles of Teaching Reading - TEFL Blog

Tue, 02 Jun 2020 Elizaveta Pachina Teaching Ideas ESA Principles of Teaching Reading I’m a young ESL teacher in China, and I is Chinese. English is a compulsory subject for all Chinese students and reading skills have gained raising importance in the national tests for English subjects. Besides this, reading itself is fun and beneficial. I always try to let my students “learn through English” instead of “learning English”. From my experience, a successful reading class for young learners should consist of the following steps: This post was written by our TEFL certification graduate Fang W. Reading in English for Children With Learning Difficulties - TEFL Blog

Thu, 09 Jan 2020 Elizaveta Pachina Teaching Ideas Reading in English for Children With Learning Difficulties Most of us take being able to read for granted. We seldom give a thought to how the process of learning to read began in our lives. I am sure most of us will not even recall the age we began to read. For many learners experiencing some form of learning difficulty, this may seem like a mountain with no peak. I am writing this essay based on my experience of having worked with learners ranging from those with various learning challenges to those with extreme learning disabilities. One thing I have learned over the years is that giving up on a child is never an option. One is forced to think creatively and innovatively to address the challenge.
