How You Can Benefit If You Use Songs in Your Teaching
Music is an important element in our lives. When you're on your way to work, you turn on the radio. When you're too tired to do anything, you choose a song from your playlist and play it to make you feel relaxed. Human beings are emotional by nature. Music offers encouragement and the strength that one needs. Its importance cannot be taken for granted. It is a tool that connects people of all ages, nationality, and culture. It's not odd to see a child listening to an old rock musician's song. Also, it's not surprising to see an Indian woman listening to Taylor Swift despite the differences in their cultures. I believe using music as a tool to teach English to foreign students have... [Read more]

3 Things That Motivate Students and How You Can Apply Them To Your Teaching
As with any subject, a student's motivation can affect their interest in the subject matter. English is no different, in fact, I believe that motivation is the key difference in students who continue to progress and improve in English and those who don't and discontinue English in their future. Now, this is not to say that all students with low motivation do not pick up any English through their learning, nor does it mean that a student with motivation will find English learning to be easy. However, I believe that motivation plays a key role in ensuring that a student remains engaged with the English language and eventually progresses into fluency. I wouldd... [Read more]

What is a hagwon and are they a good place to work? - ✔️ ✔️ ✔️ TEFL FAQs
What is a hagwon and are they a good place to work?
The term hagwon is used in South Korea to describe a particular type of school. The South Korean education system has two major components, the public school system and the private school system. Many South Koreans make use of both these systems, attending the government-run public schools as normal in any country and then taking additional lessons in a private school, particularly for additional learning in subjects such as English. A hagwon is therefore a private educational institution in South Korea where students can gain additional teaching in subjects which are seen as important for their education.
It is estimated that during their education, 95% of South Korean students will make use of a hagwon. As such these private... [Read more]

What is the Schengen Area in Europe and how does it affect TEFL teachers?
The Schengen Area, significant for those teaching English in Europe, encompasses 27 countries and hosts a population exceeding 400 million. Established in 1985, its primary goal was the elimination of border controls, facilitating seamless movement between member nations. Contrary to some beliefs, the Schengen Area is distinct from the European Union, representing a separate agreement. In its pre-Schengen days, travelers, including TEFL teachers, had to present passports at each border for entry stamps. Today, thanks to the Schengen agreement, there is an unhindered flow from one member country to another.

What does TEFL and TESOL stand for?
These acronyms are used when referring to training courses that English language teachers undertake, as well as the certification they receive upon completion. TEFL stands for Teaching English as a Foreign Language and TESOL stands for Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages. As these terms are essentially the same, they are often used interchangeably, however, TEFL is most commonly used within the UK and TESOL is usually preferred in the USA. Although some countries may favor one acronym over the other, it is important to remember that a TEFL certification and a TESOL certification are exactly the same thing as the training involved is identical.
