Several Points Which Can Surprise You about Teaching EFL in a Kindergarten - TEFL Blog
Elizaveta Pachina
Alumni Experiences
I am an EFL teacher in a kindergarten in Japan. I have two years of experience teaching English in kindergarten. It is only a 30 minutes session every day. In my first week, I made a lesson plan for them that is good for one month. I was surprised that they didn't get the lesson, memorized it or even pronounce it properly. Then the lesson plan I had to prepare last for about 3 to 4 months. I find it hard teaching English as a foreign language to my students even though I am only teaching them the basic vocabularies and some nursery rhymes. But their curiosity in the English language and their eagerness to talk with a foreigner in school helps me to find my style in teaching them the language. Before that, I don't have any experience or training to... [Read more]

A teacher is one who passes on knowledge with themselves learning at the same time. Teaching is one of the most important careers in the world, as today's society has progression which could not have happened without teachers. Be it a kindergarten teacher or a college professor, they both bring a very big impact on the students they teach. Teaching may look easy but it's not for everyone, a teacher must have patience and determination to listen, comprehend and always be willing to learn as they teach. When teaching, a student always remembers what's being said if they enjoy the teacher's way of teaching that lesson and by that, I mean that the teacher needs to have a positive attitude and a fun learning environment. The 3 Crucial Points Why Rapport is Important in the ESL Classroom - TEFL Blog
Elizaveta Pachina
TEFL Information Alumni Experiences Teaching Ideas
A teacher-student rapport plays an integral role in promoting positive teaching outcomes. A connection from both the instructor and the student is evident in terms of positive thoughts and an identical feeling of familiarity. In addition to this, a perception of a bond fosters quality interactions where the student feels vulnerable so that they feel confident to share their weaknesses and challenges(Webb & Barett, 2014). Similarly, the relationship is defined by mutual trust, an ingrained sense of connection, and an emotional affinity where the instructor can cultivate the desired outcomes without feeling burdened(Fleiming, 2003).Table of Contents

Child Development: Points to Consider When Teaching English to Young Students - TEFL Blog

These days, young children from non-English speaking countries are increasingly being forced to learn English and many parents believe that their children knowing English will benefit their children's futures. The demand for English teachers, particularly in Asia, is quite high and this has called for many schools and English learning centers in Asia to look to hire native English speakers. As demand is high, there often is a compromise on the quality of the teachers. Working with young children requires specific skill sets that often can be taught but must also come naturally. This essay will address issues and provide recommendations on what is needed to be able to work with young children that are learning English for the first time.Table of Contents... [Read more]
3 Key Points to Consider When Teaching English to Young Learners - TEFL Blog
Mark Crocker
Alumni Experiences
Teaching English to young learners is quite different from teaching English to adults in many ways. One of the differences is that young learners do not learn the language in a conscious process, mostly they acquire the language. For young learners, it can be said that it is easier for them to acquire and learn English as long as they are exposed to the language. Since learning languages differs from age to age, teaching styles and strategies also change accordingly. As English teachers, we have different approaches, methods, techniques, and tools which gravitate towards different needs and levels of young learners. So, as English teachers, we should address those needs.Table of Contents

Tefl reviews - Productive Receptive Skills/game Example Jeopardy - ✔️ ✔️ ✔️ ITTT
The next example of a game that we can adapt very easily for classroom use is the game of Jeopardy and in this particular game, what we can do is to have a set of levels for our questions, I'd say one through five, where one is going to be the easiest example and five is going to be the most difficult and then, in each of these sets of boxes, we can have various grammar points, such as tenses, perhaps modals, vocabulary and maybe even conditionals. So what the students can do is they can pick a particular topic first of all and within that topic, they can pick the level of the question that they want and then we can have a set of cards that have been created to fit into these slots and we can ask them that question at that level. So, a very simple adaptation of the game jeopardy as... [Read more]

Note: Any levels above these are typically termed 'advanced' and aren't usually taught in standard settings.
Please note that different curricula may categorize these levels in various ways. For instance, the Touchstone series from Cambridge uses a four-level scale, which, however, covers the same content as a conventional five-level scale. Another series, "Cutting Edge," encompasses six levels, including an advanced level, along with the standard five.
Let's examine some representative syllabus content for each level from the "Cutting Edge" series, 3rd Edition, published by... [Read more]
