Many people may think that the worst part of being an Uber driver are the belligerent midnight trips from downtown to the suburbs or the aggressive pre-coffee commuters or the fact that a five-minute drive can take thirty minutes because of gridlock. However, as an Uber driver of one year, I believe that the worst part about the job are trips to the airport. When I interacted with passengers going to the airport, I would think of all the new things they would get to try and the different cultures they would learn about. The problem with these trips was they were a constant reminder that the world is just waiting for us to explore it, but I was stuck leading a conventional and mundane life.

Teaching is a profession that calls upon a teacher to embody many different characteristics and qualities for them to be able to perform in their role successfully. Among other things, an argument can be made that it is essential, or at least beneficial, for a teacher to be someone who is or can become comfortable in their role for their students. A key component of achieving this goal is to be confident in their ability. Careful examination suggests that a greater level of self-confidence on the part of the teacher in the classroom positively affects the learning experience for students and the teaching experience for the teacher.

The Four Roles of a Teacher - TEFL Blog

Many people think that teachers are just people with knowledge and teach; however, teachers are way more than that. There is a Chinese old saying, "Being a teacher for one day, respect them as a father for life." What this means is that teachers usually have many responsibilities, just like students' parents. Most of the time, teachers need to adapt to various roles in different situations during the class or even outside of the class. The five main roles that teachers play are instructor, controller, role model, and counselor.

How Does the Role of the Teacher Affect a Student? - TEFL Blog
Federico Riva
Alumni Experiences
In the ITTT course, I was able to learn about the many different roles a teacher may use to assist learners of English in the classroom. However, as more and more teachers are learning, a lot of the students' ability to learn is based on factors external to the classroom. Some of these include positive relationships at home, extracurricular activities, time spent studying, explorative self-learning and so on. Nonetheless, teachers can affect the choices the students go on to make outside of the classroom. In this way, it is important to think about what type of role might be impactful from a student's perspective. This paper will argue that a wide range of roles may have a positive effect on a student's interest in a foreign language, and in turn, may... [Read more]
