Is a 120-hour TEFL enough? - ✔️ ✔️ ✔️ TEFL FAQs
Is a 120-hour TEFL enough?
When prospective English teachers consider a TEFL certification, a common query is the adequacy of a 120-hour TEFL certificate for classroom or online teaching. While the duration might initially seem limited, it is important to note that a 120-hour TEFL certificate is the standard benchmark set by the majority of ESL employers worldwide. Alongside the core training, some institutions might emphasize classroom experience. Recognizing this need, several TEFL programs offer courses inclusive of classroom-based hours, catering to those job requirements and ensuring teachers are both qualified and experienced.

What Makes You a Good Teacher?
The role of a teacher is to help students acquire knowledge so that eventually, they can be competent in understanding and communicating in English. A good teacher is a successful teacher. The success or failure of a teacher lies not only on his/her teaching styles, but more importantly, the learning of the students. To a certain extent, the personality of the teacher may affect the learning of his/her students, but what is more indispensable is the relationship between the teacher and the students. A non-threatening relationship with the students can help to build the students' interests in learning, and create an atmosphere that is conducive and light-hearted for learning. A good teacher is also a... [Read more]

Tolerance and Cultural Sensitivity in The Classroom
Since one of the essentials of being a good teacher is being respected by your students, it's very important to make sure one does not offend culturally by one's behavior or the content of the lessons. Lessons should be fun and at times feel "free" in the sense that students are laughing and interacting with each other and with the teacher perhaps in a game, but at no point should boundaries be crossed that would make students uncomfortable or put them in a defensive posture.

Introduction to Classroom Management for ESL Teachers
Successful teaching often depends on the ability of the teacher to manage the classroom. The frequent occurrence of disciplinary problems and poor structure of the classroom can have a considerable effect on teaching and learning. Teachers are responsible for managing and monitoring students for a better teaching/learning environment. Classroom management is still considered an essential part of teaching and learning activities. It may vary in arrangement and development. It refers to the infrastructure, space, lights, furniture, boards, etc. and the methods, strategies, and skills that teachers use to maintain a classroom environment which results in success for the students.... Is a 120-hour TEFL enough?
Many trainees wonder if a 120-hour TEFL certificate is adequate to teach in a classroom or online when looking for a teaching position. It may not appear to be enough time to become a competent teacher, but we guarantee that it is possible.
Most ESL employers and schools will want you to complete at least 120 hours of training before applying for their vacant jobs. Some employers may even require that you have some classroom experience alongside the 120 hours of study. There are various TEFL courses available that contain this number of study hours, as well as some level of classroom practice, making them ideal for jobs that require experience.

Seating Arrangement in the Classroom to Enhance English Learning
There are many distinct elements that influence what goes on inside a classroom. From the actions of the teacher and the students to the material used, the structure was chosen for the lesson, one could theoretically come up with a myriad of variables that can, positively or negatively, impact what goes on inside a classroom. Therefore, in order to better "stack the odds" so as to ensure that every lesson goes as smoothly and successfully as possible, it is the teacher's obligation to try and "tweak" these variables in his favor. One of these is the seating arrangement in the classroom.

English as a Matter of Global Citizenship
Over the last hundred years, the world we live in has changed significantly. Businesses now communicate across borders effortlessly and friends can stay connected using technology no matter where they are on the planet. Although major languages around the world remain important to local cultures, the need for a common global language has risen due to the connection of all continents via technology. English naturally emerged as a global language to fill this void, largely because it is spoken as the native language of the United States of America, which has a very expansive economy.

Do TEFL teachers need a second language?
The simple answer is no, you do not need to have any knowledge or experience of languages other than English to take a TEFL course or to become an EFL teacher. The ability to speak other languages is not required as the vast majority of TEFL classrooms around the world rely on the communicative approach to English teaching that specifies that English is the only language used in the classroom.

The Importance of Teaching Pronouns Inclusively
In a writing classroom, instruction in proper pronoun use is typically limited to a short lesson on pronoun agreement. The pronoun must agree with the antecedent in both gender and quantity. Apart from this, pronouns are not seen as worth much class time; they are assumed to be uncomplicated aspects of the writing process. Many teachers will overlook pronoun disagreement in student writing with the assumption that there are writing errors that are more urgent than instruction in the finer details of pronoun agreement (e.g. the "correct" pairing of the singular "everyone" with the singular "he/she" rather than the colloquial-singular "they"). Pronouns are assumed to be easy to ascribe... [Read more]
