How can I effectively manage classroom behavior in a TEFL classroom? - ✔️ ✔️ ✔️ ITTT TEFL & TESOL
One of the key strategies for managing classroom behavior in a TEFL setting is to establish clear expectations from the beginning. Communicate these expectations to your students in a language they understand and ensure they are aware of the consequences of not meeting them. Use visual aids, such as posters or charts, to remind students of the rules and expectations regularly. By setting clear guidelines, you create a structured environment that helps prevent behavioral issues before they arise.
Positive reinforcement is a powerful tool in managing behavior in a TEFL classroom. Praise students for good behavior and academic achievements to encourage them to continue their positive actions. Motivation is a crucial part of learning and it has grave importance especially in an ESL classroom. Language teachers should be aware of their role in motivating their students and take responsibility while teaching. Students tend to get easily demotivated while they are learning a new language since it involves making many mistakes and devoting a lot of time and effort. Teachers should help their students to keep their motivation level high. There are three main steps for motivating learners. Teachers should start with setting attainable goals, blend their needs and interests while teaching and acknowledge their accomplishments.

Having been an English teacher of high school students in Japan for the past 2 years, I have noticed that motivation in the classroom is as much dependent on the students as it is on me as the teacher. There are three aspects that I have identified and used in my environment to get the student motivated and engaged. The Japanese culture is largely conservative and group orientated and those are crucial to take into account if one is to succeed in their teaching career in Japan. The following plays a big role in setting a tone whereby students are motivated and engaged. Those aspects are culture, societal pressure, and peer pressure.
