How can I make extra cash when teaching English abroad?
While teaching English abroad can be rewarding, there may be instances when educators wish to supplement their income. One widely embraced strategy is offering private English lessons as there is a substantial market for one-on-one tutoring in most countries. Often, individual students or parents are willing to pay significant amounts, sometimes ranging from $20 to $40 per hour, for these personalized sessions. Leveraging such side gigs can significantly bolster earnings and enhance the overall teaching experience abroad.

How to Improve English Writing Skills in Chinese Classrooms
Creative writing classes are fun. Creative writing classes are rewarding. And sometimes, creative writing classes can be highly frustrating. I remember sitting down on a rainy day in Kunming, China, in front of me a cup of tea and a pile of homework assignments from my creative writing class. And I remember my disappointment as text after text turned out to be virtually identical, each one a variation of a popular Chinese fairy tale. Even the names of the characters seemed to have been picked from a very small pool of available names.

The Importance of Teaching Pronouns Inclusively - TEFL Blog
Fri, 19 Apr 2019 Linda Dunsmore

The Importance of Teaching Pronouns Inclusively
In a writing classroom, instruction in proper pronoun use is typically limited to a short lesson on pronoun agreement. The pronoun must agree with the antecedent in both gender and quantity. Apart from this, pronouns are not seen as worth much class time; they are assumed to be uncomplicated aspects of the writing process. Many teachers will overlook pronoun disagreement in student writing with the assumption that there are writing errors that are more urgent than instruction in the finer details of pronoun agreement (e.g. the "correct" pairing of the singular "everyone" with the singular "he/she" rather than the colloquial-singular "they"). Pronouns are assumed to be easy to ascribe... [Read more]

How Should Teachers Analyze Their Work?
It is critical and necessary, that as purveyors of educational content, a teacher ensures they undertake periodic analysis of their methods, rationale, and motivations for the job. Periodic self-analysis is important, as it can be one defining factor in what separates a "good" from a "great" teacher. In my experience as a teacher, I have often used a teaching log to note my findings and experiences in the classroom. Brookfield (1995) defines a teaching log "as a weekly record of the events in a teacher's life that have impressed themselves most vividly on his or her consciousness"(p.72). In this paper, I present four main ideas, based on experience, in favor of a critical self-analytical method... [Read more]

Communication is essential for everyday life activities. It's impossible not to communicate. Even when you don't speak a word, you communicate. That's because communication represents the way we express put thoughts, our ideas, and our opinions. It is as much about effective listening and reading as it is about speaking and writing. Communication is built on these four important skills which are divided into Productive Skills (speaking and writing) and Receptive Skills (reading and listening).
