Hello everyone! My name is Lulu, and I am currently a Fulbright recipient in South Korea for the next year (2021). A little about me: I was originally born in China but was adopted into a USA family. I grew up knowing I wanted to become a doctor and went to college in the Midwest and majored in Nutritional Science Pre-Med. Initially going into college and throughout most of college, I thought I would go directly into medical school after graduating, however, I decided to take a detour on my pursuit of medicine by taking a break from academics. During my year off, I decided to apply for Fulbright because I did not feel ready for medical school and wanted to try something completely different and outside of my comfort zone. I wanted to experience and travel to other countries... [Read more]

What can I do after teaching English abroad?
Some people who head overseas to teach English grow to love the lifestyle so much that they never return to work in their home country. However, for the majority, the move back home will come at some stage, whether after a single year or much longer. For some it can be a difficult experience as you are no longer the person you were when you first left home. Everything can feel different, from the everyday language to the time zone, from the climate to the cuisine. Reverse culture shock can be genuinely unsettling. One way you can combat this, and continue the international focus of your new found way of life, is to find a job that allows you to use the new skills and knowledge that your time abroad has given you.

Keeping College Students Motivated in ESL Learning
In my classroom, I often hear many of my students saying, "I want to be good at English." At the same time, I am aware that most of them almost lose their motivation for learning English. After studying English hard to pass the entrance examination, they are free from the "obligational" study of English. Now in college, no one in the classroom speaks out that English is unnecessary. On the contrary, they answered that they need to study English because it is a global language. More importantly, the ability to command the language strongly influences the success of their job hunting.

Teaching is not generally a lucrative profession, because in Africa we have strange financial priorities. But there are so many countries out there that make teaching quite a better living particularly teaching the English language as a foreign language. I don't think and neither do I believe that one can just wake up and call himself or herself into a particular field without training. Fully ingrained should one be, call himself or herself an English language teacher and this can not be achieved without education.

How My Passion For The Spanish Language Made Me Become An English Teacher Abroad
As a native English speaker, my first major foreign language experience began in 8th grade, where I had the option of studying either Spanish or French. I chose Spanish, as I'd always been drawn to the language and Latin American culture, and hoped to one day live in a Spanish speaking country. I studied the language throughout high school, but in the years afterward, it wasn't much of a priority and wasn't something I used on a regular basis.
