Since my childhood, I have been frequently asked the same question "what kind of teacher do you want?" At different life stages, I have different answers. When I was a kid, I would say a teacher who dresses neatly and smiles nicely; when I was a teenager, I would prefer a "cool" teacher as a good teacher, who behaves differently from other boring and stereotyping adults; until I grow up, I think a good teacher should have sound subject knowledge, be fair and consistent with all of the students as well as being sensitive to the students' reactions and providing necessary support, and until now I know being a good teacher has nothing to do with his/her appearances and dressings.

Key Responsibilities of a Teacher in a TEFL Classroom - TEFL Blog
Elizaveta Pachina
Alumni Experiences
The roles of an English teacher in a TEFL classroom are varied and depend largely on the stage of the lesson and the situations that may arise, both planned and unplanned. Many people see the teacher as the main source of information and an example of the English language. This, in a sense, is the primary role of a teacher; however, in order to fulfill the ultimate goal a teacher has, they must create a productive atmosphere in the class and a good, working relationship with their students.

Amazing Perks of Being a Volunteer Teacher - TEFL Blog

Being a teacher is not like any other jobs. For example, if you are an engineer and you don't like your job, you can still manage to go to work but to be a teacher, you have to love what you do. It is just like being a mother of 20-30 children. You have to take care of them one by one. You have to be their psychologist, mentor, and idol at the same time. It's not something that you can do just for the money; at least if you're good at your job. That is why being a volunteer in teaching is an excellent way of making this planet better. There are a few reasons to be a volunteer teacher and this essay will mention some of them.

My teaching experience began in a whirlwind. I graduated from college a semester ahead of my class, married, lived with my husband in my sister's basement for two months, and moved to South Korea. We had no idea what to expect. Sure, we'd read the blogs, talked to the director of our school, and even talked with people we know who had lived and taught in Korea. It still didn't fully prepare us for what to expect, how amazing it would be, and how hard. We lived in South Korea for 19 months teaching three through seven year olds daily and first through third graders several times each week.

If English held no promise of greater opportunity, there would be little reason for a non-native speaker to bother with it. After all, to most of the world, it is a hegemonic foreign language that delights in disobeying its own rules and depicts its non-speakers as the exotic and sometimes less civilized other. If one's native tongue alone could grant unlimited opportunity and unrestricted global mobility, then there would be no reason to learn any other language, least of all one as complicated and othering as English.
