When I first began my career of teaching internationally I remember a very distinct moment. I was sitting at a dinner restaurant with friends who were all from different countries: Germany, the Netherlands, the US, Columbia, Vietnam, Thailand, and Montenegro. While we were all from very different and faraway places we could all talk and share with each other. The only way that was possible was because of our one connected, global language.

Should a TEFL Certification be Mandatory for Teachers?
The importance of a course such as a TEFL is easy to overlook when you consider the multitude of teaching jobs that are available around the globe that require no teacher training whatsoever. In many countries, the only requirements are that you have some form of degree and are a native speaker. For those looking to travel whilst earning some money, these countries can provide a good balance of income and culture, as well as easy access to other countries in the area. However, whilst this is beneficial to the 'tourist teacher', it can often lead to substandard teaching methods. For an example of this, I need not look any further than myself.

5 Mental Health Practices for EFL Teachers during the COVID-19 Pandemic
Within the last months, many countries have been implementing various restrictive measures to reduce the spread of COVID-19. Thus, many of us have had to adapt to drastic changes in our day-to-day life. Lots of EFL teachers, myself included, are currently stranded in foreign countries with expiring visas and/or contracts. Many are faced with the absence of physical contact from others. Some have even lost their jobs and are currently without an income. Numerous EFL teachers aren't earning their full salary. In addition to that, the ones who were used to face-to-face classes now have to adapt to online teaching. Can you imagine facing all these challenges,... [Read more]

Five Online Teaching Jobs That Don’t Require a Degree
Online English language teaching is one area of the TEFL field that has grown rapidly in recent times and it is only going to become more popular. With this growth comes an increased demand for teachers which is a very positive thing for anyone who doesn't have a full university degree. While some online employers do insist on a degree, the two most important ingredients when applying for online teaching jobs are generally a TEFL/TESOL certification and in some cases being a native English speaker.
