Several Problems South Korean Students Face Learning English
This essay examines English education in South Korea and its socio-cultural problems. The discussion draws on my personal beliefs and experiences. First, the history of Korean education is laid out by illustrating the cultural background of Korean society. Following that, it traces the problems of learners of the English language in Korea and tips on how to improve their learning.

Problems for English Learners in korea There are a variety of problems facing language learners in korea. In the course of this paper I will avoid discussing the obvious issues, such as the "L/R" pronunciation problem that is typical of Asian students, and focus on further reaching ones. The issues I intend to address are cultural and institutional. That is to say, that korean culture and the education system itself presents a unique set of problems for language... [Read more]

The Most Common Problems Students in South Korea Face When Learning English
Korean learners of the English language face numerous challenges in acquiring the language on a proficient level, although English is introduced to children at an early age. English is incorporated into the primary school curriculum from the age of four, yet only a small minority master the language on a proficient conversational level. Unfortunately, the reasons seem to stem from cultural and social differences, the significant differences between the two languages; Korean and English, and the Korean Educational System is also a contributing factor.

What is a hagwon and are they a good place to work? - ✔️ ✔️ ✔️ TEFL FAQs
What is a hagwon and are they a good place to work?
The term hagwon is used in South Korea to describe a particular type of school. The South Korean education system has two major components, the public school system and the private school system. Many South Koreans make use of both these systems, attending the government-run public schools as normal in any country and then taking additional lessons in a private school, particularly for additional learning in subjects such as English. A hagwon is therefore a private educational institution in South Korea where students can gain additional teaching in subjects which are seen as important for their education.
It is estimated that during their education, 95% of South Korean students will make use of a hagwon. As such these private... [Read more]

Let me just show you today's topic so that everybody who's joining knows what's happening today. Today we're talking about teaching English in South Korea and I'm so excited about this topic and it's actually been a super requested topic every time I do a live session. What is a hagwon and are they a good place to work?
A hagwon is a specialized educational institution in South Korea, distinct from the standard public school system. It operates primarily as a private academy, catering to students who seek supplementary education, especially in subjects like English. While the public school system offers foundational education, hagwons focus on enhancing and refining a student's knowledge.
Approximately 95% of South Korean students enroll in a hagwon at some point in their educational journey, indicating their significant role in the Korean academic landscape. Given their prominence, hagwons present a vast majority of employment opportunities for EFL teachers in South Korea. However, potential educators should thoroughly research individual hagwons and... The Importance of Phonetics when Teaching English
For the longest time, people have separated teaching English from linguistics, which tends to include all their subcategories. However, phonetics, in particular, plays an incredibly integral part of the teaching of the English language. Why is an understanding of phonetics important in aiding the teaching pronunciation, articulation, and intonation? Being able to demonstrate how one changes the shape of their mouth, or the placement of their tongue can be the difference between someone speaking correct English and sounding as close as possible to a native speaker. Without at least a basic knowledge of this concept, how can we as teachers properly explain and display the way our... [Read more]
