Below you can read feedback from an ITTT graduate regarding one section of their online TEFL certification course. Each of our online courses is broken down into concise units that focus on specific areas of English language teaching.

This unit concerns teaching receptive skills which are reading and listening. One can read or listen with a purpose or just for entertainment. We use different types of skills when reading or listening such as predictive, scanning, skimming, getting detailed information or deducing something from the content. Problems arise when there is no understanding of the language, if it is too advanced or if the topic is too boring. This unit covers the present simple, present perfect, present continuous, and present perfect continuous tenses. It covers how these tenses are formed, how they are used, and gives examples for how these tenses can be taught. From this unit, I gained a more in-depth knowledge of when and how to use these tenses. I also learned about some of the obstacles that ESL students run into when they are studying the present tenses.
