School in Myanmar Seeks EFL Teacher

Date posted:2018-06-07 | Writer: Thamardi Private High School | Email: [email protected]

Thamardi Private High School, a small family run school, boasts enthusiastic and well behaved students, with traditional Myanmar lunches supplied daily at school. We are looking for an EFL teacher, with some teaching experience and a passion for teaching and living abroad.

Meiktila, a small bustling city, sits at the crossroads of many major tourist destinations. You will find plenty to do to occupy your time in this clean yet active city. Whether it’s sitting at a riverside restaurant sipping a beer, going for a round of golf at the local course, or enjoying hikes in nearby villages we promise you will find a small corner of Myanmar to relax and immerse yourself in local culture. If you want a western lifestyle then it is not ideal for you. We are located on the outskirts of Meiktila, where there are restaurants, coffee cafes, and local villages. This area offers more of a culture experience allowing you to connect with the locals and the other foreigners that work on the base.

JOB DETAILS:

Start Date: immediate

Salary: $1,200 a month; Private OT tuition classes at a rate of $15 per hour will be assisted with by the school upon request.

Workload: 25 hours a week; two consecutive days off per week; all public and school holidays paid; the exact amount is hard to tell because the public holidays are based off the lunar calendar and the school holidays often spring up with little notice.

Age groups: K-12; Adults

School Events: Teachers are expected to attend 3-4 annual events outside of working hours within the school year. These include the prize giving ceremony and graduation ceremony. No preparation required, just attendance.

Accommodation: Shared housing (4 people max.) in a nice and safe residential area with 4 bedrooms, 3 bathrooms, kitchen, and courtyard provided by the school.

Flight Reimbursement: Up to a $1000 paid

Contract Length: generally 7 months but it depends upon arrival; should the teacher and school get along they are welcome to renegotiate the contract between each other for a longer period

School Contacts: The school is a family owned business and the two brothers speak English really well and frequently bring teachers out to enjoy the Meiktila nightlife. They are the teachers’ main contact but many people at the school will try in earnest to engage and speak with teachers.

REQUIREMENTS:

**Must be a native level speaker from the US, UK, Australia, New Zealand, Canada or Ireland with a CELTA, TEFL or TESOL certificate highly preferred. Better chance for those who can teach K-12.

Below you can read feedback from an ITTT graduate regarding one section of their online TEFL certification course. Each of our online courses is broken down into concise units that focus on specific areas of English language teaching.

The two videos gives good indication as to how a lesson should be approached and the contrast between the two is helpful in understanding what to do and what not to do in a ESL lesson. The first video clearly has a more awkward atmosphere where the second one a a more fun and interactive atmosphere. One can clearly see that the students are much more interactive in the second lesson. This was a great review for me on how to properly identify, assess, and use the various tenses in the english language. This can be rather tricky for a native speaker because tenses are not normally thought about in everyday conversation, but this lesson has made me more aware of what tenses I am using and at what times, which will help me better articulate these points to my pupils.
