Date posted:2008-04-30 | Writer: Minerva School | Email: [email protected]

Minerva School is a small bilingual (Spanish-English) school located in the center of the historical city of Gracias Lempira in Honduras. Gracias is a major tourist area of Honduras, having the tallest mountain in Honduras (Celaque), delicious Hot Springs, as well as being the root of the Lenca Civilization.

Minerva School is searching for willing, enthusiastic teachers to come teach English at our school. Minerva has a total of 130 students and has all grade levels from pre-school up to eighth grade. Our education at Minerva stands under three basic principles:100% bilingual education, Civic-cultural values, Christian formation. At MInerva we teach our students to help those in need by being part of many of the community service programs around us.
If you are interested in living in Honduras for a year, or even two, Minerva School gives you all the accommodations to do it. With English being the second learning language in this school, it is of great importance for these kids to have open-hearted native English speaking teachers for them to learn this language which is so important to succeed in the global world in which we live today.

The most important requirement is to be willing to teach in Gracias, Lempira for AT LEAST A SCHOOL YEAR (2008-2009). Spanish is not necessary, and from others’ previous experiences, you can even end up learning it by interacting with the children and the community. An education degree is preferred, but not totally necessary. Any kind of experience with children is also a pro. A TEFL qualification together with a Young Learners Certificate would be an advantage.

The benefits in coming to teach at Minerva School are a salary of US$ 250.00 Living accommodations and health insurance are provided by the school. This can be a very interesting experience for you! You are going to love the uniqueness, historical background, and closeness to nature that Gracias, Lempira possesses.

Below you can read feedback from an ITTT graduate regarding one section of their online TEFL certification course. Each of our online courses is broken down into concise units that focus on specific areas of English language teaching.

During this unit, we covered different theories, techniques, and methods that are found in teaching. I found this unit really useful and very applicable to real-world teaching and I plan on re-visiting this unit when I do lesson plans in the future. The ESA techniques and ideology will be really useful when I begin teaching on my own and I am thankful that I learned that this early and before I started teaching.A lesson plan can be helpful in that it provides an outline and structure to refer to while teaching the class. It is key to include elements that engage the students, allow them to study the concept you are teaching and then provide them the opportunity to activate what has been introduced in the lesson. Lesson plans offer an opportunity to structure creativity and activities in teaching to best reach students.
