EFL Teachers Needed in Penang, Malaysia

Date posted:2017-01-25 | Writer: Enhance Education | Email: [email protected]

Enhance Education needs new EFL teachers to start between now and end of March 2017 (start date flexible). We specialise in teaching English in our four teaching centres in Penang State, with a total enrollment of more than 2,000 students per term. In all centres we provide high-quality English language courses in spacious, well-equipped classrooms using interactive student-centred teaching methods. Our courses cover all ages and levels from age 4 years to adults but we especially need teachers with a strong preference for teaching pre-school and primary age students.

We seek teachers who meet all these essential criteria:

- Substantial recent experience of teaching English to a range of learners from young learners to teens and adults.

- Native level English speaker with a university degree in any subject.

- CELTA, TESOL or direct equivalent with a substantial element of classroom experience.

We value professional development and we encourage and support teachers to improve their skills. We need teachers who can relate well to students, especially children, and who have an active and lively teaching style. We use a range of well-known coursebooks but teachers can draw on our data-bank for supplementary materials and have considerable freedom in planning lessons. Most of our students are part-time and study with us for 2 hours per week. This means that most classes are held at weekends and on some weekday evenings; nonetheless we do guarantee all teachers two consecutive rest days each week, usually on Mondays and Tuesdays.

We offer a locally competitive pay and benefits package including health insurance and pension premiums. Depending on qualifications and experience, starting salaries currently are from RM7,540 to RM7,900 per month with additions of a 12% pension supplement: a total package of RM8,455 to RM8,848 per month. Assistance with relocation and settlement costs is available including 14 nights accommodation on first arrival and interest- free settlement and car purchase loans.

Our four centres are located in Straits Quay Marina and Bayan Baru on Penang Island, and on the mainland in Butterworth (Bagan Ajam) and Bukit Mertajam (Alma). All are close to residential and shopping areas with a wide range of affordable condos having good facilities such as pool and gym. Commuting to all centres is quite easy and no matter where you teach you can choose to live on either Penang Island or on the mainland. Penang Island is popular with expatriates and Malaysians alike and affords a wide range of recreational and outdoor activities while historical Georgetown has UNESCO World Heritage Site status. The cost of living is much less than in many major cities in the region.

Enhance Education Sdn Bhd is a young company that is growing quickly. The senior staff all have strong educational backgrounds and considerable experience: the Director is Dr Tom Craig-Cameron, formerly Director of British Council Malaysia; the Academic Director Sue Back is a CELTA and UK Primary Qualified Teacher; and the two Senior Teachers are Emma Talbot (DELTA) and Jamie Carter (MA Education Management). We also have experienced Lead Teachers who manage and support the teachers in each centre.

Below you can read feedback from an ITTT graduate regarding one section of their online TEFL certification course. Each of our online courses is broken down into concise units that focus on specific areas of English language teaching.

This unit refreshed my memory with regards to Past Tense forms. Many of my students struggle with Past Perfect and Past Perfect Continuous and so I hope that I can help them understand it better with the activities and Usages. Past Tense is extremely important and should be understood by all students. I think that this will be the most challenging to teach because of the irregular verbs. This unit is about how to go about teaching grammar concepts and new vocabulary. The ESA structures from last lesson or two lessons ago plays into this one, as teaching each new concept will be done by the Engage-Study-Activate structure. The contrast of how to use ESA to introduce grammatical structures versus vocabulary is important, as is the explanation of how to choose vocabulary.
