TEFL Videos - TEFL TESOL Online Courses - TEFL TESOL In-class Courses - What is the difference?
This is what one of our TEFL graduates feels he has gained from the course, or a part of it, and how he plans to put into action what he has learned.
I enjoyed reading through this unit on teaching receptive skills. It was helpful to read about how we read and listen. This information will be of great value when planning a lesson. The example given of the patchwork ESA method was a good model for assisting students in their learning process. What I learned most are the keys needed for receptive skills: interesting material, build interest before study time, pre-teach vocabulary or structure if needed, vary the material, use materials to practice different skills and so on. The gist is that the activities are focused on the students' interests and abilities. It is important to use realistic comprehension tasks and incorporate activate phases that naturally build from the text.
