Tips & Resources for LGBTQIA+ English Teachers Abroad
Teaching abroad is an exciting and enriching opportunity for anyone, but as an LGBT individual, there are additional challenges and considerations to keep in mind. Moving to a new country means adjusting to a different culture and navigating questions about discrimination, safety, coming out, and handling public displays of affection. While there has been significant progress in LGBT rights globally, including the legalization of same-sex marriage in more countries, there is still work to be done. Therefore, finding a place to teach abroad that is accepting and welcoming to the LGBT community becomes crucial.

Motivation in the classroom is the biggest reason why I teach students in a high school setting. I am a public-school teacher and I get English as a Second Language students all the time in my classroom. I am a 10th-grade teacher but my students' ages range from 14 years old to 19 years old. The number one factor that I teach is for motivation. My students are already matured and have seen things they probably should not have at their ages. Once they get to my classroom, they are mine to teach. I do my utmost best to teach my students. Today, the big planet earth has become a small global village and the sovereign barriers seem to have disappeared. Technological innovations have left no stone unturned in converting the dreams into reality, where people from any part of the universe can come on a common platform to interact and chat with each other. But, no communication of this magnitude is possible without a common medium of conversation. Therefore, as global communication expands, so does the need for a common Global Language. The term "Global Language" can be better described as a language, which is spoken internationally and is the prime medium of instructions universally.

Where can I teach English abroad?
Among the many attractions of teaching English abroad is the fact that you are free to choose not only the region where you would like to work, but also the specific country or even city. For some teachers the history and culture of Europe appeals most, while others are drawn to exotic destinations across Asia or Latin America. However, before you book your plane tickets you need to be aware that the requirements for foreign teachers vary greatly from one country to the next and these may limit your options. You should do plenty of research on whether any of the following issues apply to your chosen destination.
In some cases, language schools are restricted to only hiring teachers who hold citizenship of a native English speaking country. These are... [Read more]
