Teaching ESL & Knowing Your Audience: Young Learners vs. Adults
Whether speaking at a public event where thousands have gathered, or talking politics around a table with friends, this simple piece of advice is well-known to anyone who has ever done any public speaking. But, it is also critical advice for the aspiring teacher—whether those teaching English as a second language, or those teaching chemistry in high school. The more well-acquainted a teacher is with his or her classroom, the more successful he or she will be in engaging their minds in the topic at hand.

What is The Difference Between Teaching English to High-School Students and University Students?
An obvious difference between teaching English to high-school students and university students in the organization. Class sizes at a school are usually limited to about 25 students and we have to check the attendance because it is compulsory. The timetable and the syllabus are fixed. At a university, the groups are often much bigger, and the teacher can arrange the syllabus more freely.

Who Is Easier to Be Taught: a Child or an Adult?
I would like to divide groups of learners into 4 categories: children (from 5 to 12 years old), teenagers (from 12 to 18 years old), adults (from 18 to 60 years old) and seniors (from 60+). I had the chance to teach all of those groups in some points of my life. The conclusion of this experience made me see the major difference in the abilities and motivation among those 4 different groups.

Top ESL Weather Vocabulary List
Teaching weather vocabulary early on in an English course is a great idea because it is something that the students can practice on a daily basis. Especially during daily warm ups, teachers can always ask about the weather and weather vocabulary comes in handy during other activities too.
Teaching Weather: Step By Step Guide
1. Warm up
During your usual warm up, try and get the students talking about the seasons. Then, ask students what season they like best and see if anyone can explain why. This is a great way to elicit some of the weather vocabulary you plan to practice during the lesson. When certain vocabulary words come up, write them on the board. Depending on the level of your... Stories for ESL Students of Different Age Groups
Stories expose the students to more language, they engage and motivate the learner, they can be used to teach the structure of a language and the concepts about print which may be different between cultures. Stories with images can also help the students anchor their knowledge about the text. Listening to stories also helps the students hear accents and how words are pronounced. However, it is important to choose the correct book or story for the students you are working with. If familiar storylines are chosen the student is more likely to understand the story. It is also important to take into consideration the interests of the students and to find text on those topics.

Establish Rapport or Teaching's a Bore
Establishing a rapport with my students has been the most 'natural' part of my teaching experience. When I started my teaching career about ten years ago, ideas like classroom management and lesson planning were alien to me. I struggled immensely trying to learn strategies to excel in that area of education. Establishing relationships with my students was easy and always seemed to just happen for me. As the years have passed, I've been able to reflect on my time in the classroom and I've discovered some common denominators relating to me why exactly students are drawn to me (and me to them!). I think other people can learn from my interactions with the students who have passed through my... [Read more]

A Good Start in EFL Teaching Is Half The Work
Two and a half years ago, if my friends and family had asked me what kind of job I wanted to do or what kind of career I wanted to pursue, I never would have said the words 'English teacher'. Maybe it was because I was too shy as a kid and teenager growing up, and I never used to see myself as a figure that people would look up to or trust while learning something new, but I have learned that life changes you with its own experiences and the way you see things.

Key Ways to Motivate Students from Young Learners to Adults
As we all know, motivation is a core aspect of teaching and learning a language. Lack of motivation is perhaps the biggest obstacle that we face as students and teachers. If a student lacks motivation, he/she will not pay attention in the class or will simply find it boring. At the same time if a teacher lacks motivation to teach he/she will be unable to attract students' attention and give them all they need. Let us be honest and say that intelligent students are those, who always eagerly attend class and enjoy the process. Here we need a highly motivated teacher who is willing help them. How Teachers Can Handle Students With Challenging Behavior
Managing a class is a huge topic to talk about: in a nutshell, it 's focused on the teacher's duty to organize a classroom properly, maintaining discipline and setting the tone. The teacher must be able to inspire confidence, shaping a relaxing atmosphere among students, irrespective of his/her teaching style and personality; furthermore, an essential point implies the teacher's capability to pay attention to the variations of activities and situations and be able to modify his/her role according to that. In other words, being a good teacher requires a high awareness about the role to "play" (when being an assessor, prompter, facilitator, tutor, participant, observer, model,... [Read more]

Readers Are Leaders: How to Instill a Love for Reading in Children?
Children usually prioritize their joy and prefer rewarding activities. They are more interested in reading when it is rewarding and beneficial to them. Interestingly, children learning a second language find it easier to learn reading compared to those who are learning to read for the first time. This is because young second language (L2) learners have already experienced that reading can be interesting and entertaining. By making reading in a second language interesting, students are likely to be motivated.
