This was a very exciting unit for me personally. I have not had any real knowledge regarding pronunciation and phonology. I also have never been good at pronunciation. However, I have found this to be very interesting. The tool that has helped, and will continue to guide me, is the phonetic chart. Why, because it provided the correct pronunciation and made the three groups easier to learn and work with. I enjoyed this chapter immensely.This unit teaches about teaching grammar to students of english as a second language. I gives some examples for employing ESA teaching, for example the straight arrow method, the boomerang and patchwork methods as well. It discusses teaching vocabulary, grammatical structures and functions of the language such as inviting people to dinner. Some really good recommendations for practicing the language in the activation stage are provided.
