ESL Teachers Needed in Chiayi, Taiwan

Date posted:2011-08-16 | Writer: Modern Language School | Email: [email protected]

The Modern Language School is looking for mature, good-humored, creative and motivated TEFL qualified teachers to fill a position starting on September 13. Our students range from elementary school to high school, with class sizes as small as individual, one-on-one arrangements to groups of 16 students. Our curriculum encourages teachers to use their individuality and creativity by providing an extensive supply of teaching materials, including games, handouts, reference books and other activities. Our staff has over 35 years of teaching experience, and a teacher trainer is on duty everyday to share ideas. Monthly workshops provide the teachers with the opportunity to develop professionally by exchanging views on teaching methods and techniques. Teachers will also be expected to participate in curriculum development, such as creating and editing homework assignments and tests.

The Modern Language School has been operating in Chiayi for over twelve years. Being an American-managed language center, we feel we better understand the challenges foreign teachers face in Taiwan. We will pick you up at the airport, provide assistance in locating housing and purchasing a scooter (translating, loans, driver’s test prep). Our benefit package includes health insurance, sponsorship for a resident visa and work permit, NT$20,000 end-of-contract bonus, two weeks vacation and also paid holidays. Our monthly salary is NT$50,000 a month for 25 hours per week with a pay raise at the end of six months.

During vacation and holiday periods, teachers have traveled throughout Taiwan, from its sandy beaches in the south to its rugged central mountains to rock concerts up in the capital, Taipei. Most have taken trips all across Asia, from Korea to Bali, the Philippines to Thailand. Many have gone onto education careers, as well as employment within the public and private sectors. They have often pointed out how their experiences in Taiwan have been important factors in gaining the positions they have applied for.

If you are a native English speaker, have a bachelor’s degree or a college diploma with a TESOL/TESL certificate and can give at least a twelve-month’s commitment, we would be very interested to hear from you. Please send a resume, a recent photo, your phone number and/or e-mail address and any questions you may have to Hugo McGlinchey, managing director of Modern Language School, to the e-mail address given on the job heading, or any of the contacts below:

Below you can read feedback from an ITTT graduate regarding one section of their online TEFL certification course. Each of our online courses is broken down into concise units that focus on specific areas of English language teaching.

I found the explanations of all of the present tenses in this unit very helpful. I had never seen the present simple, present continuous, present perfect, and present perfect continuous explained in terms of form, and found these charts especially helpful. The explanations of usages and example sentences were also quite informative, and I hope to use some of the suggested activities with future classes. In Unit one I learned about qualities, that a good teacher should have and give. Also it is about teacher's roles in the classroom, and how to switch between them during the class. In addition to information about teacher's qualities there are also some about student's qualities and levels of language ability. The last part of Unit one talks about the reasons why students are motivated to study English.
