I learnt many grammar rules that I followed naturally without knowing the rules explicitly, which gave me a clearer insight into how sentences are formed. This will help me be better able to explain the grammatical patterns in the phrases my students are learning. With the amount of exceptions to rules, such as irregular verbs, I can certainly empathise with my students about the challenges that English poses for non-native learners.Conditionals are a less focused on part of grammar in school. At the high school education level of which I was taught, tenses were more thoroughly taught and we focused on how to teach these concepts. The conditionals can provide a grounds for confusion as they play with tense and the verbs change accordingly when someone is reporting the events or actions of another person. Students should grasp tenses before tackling conditionals.
