Below you can read feedback from an ITTT graduate regarding one section of their online TEFL certification course. Each of our online courses is broken down into concise units that focus on specific areas of English language teaching.

Unit 19 covered the considerations and approaches necessary for teaching specific groups of learners, such as young learners, beginners, 1-to-1 classes and adults learning business English. There were suggestions as to what activities and teaching style would work best for each group, as well as common difficulties faced in teaching each level. I learned a lot from the example of a Needs Analysis for business English. In this unit, I learned about receptive skills: reading and listening. I learned that both are equally important. I also learned that sometimes listening tasks may be more difficult for students than reading tasks as content is not captured for students to review multiple times. I also learned that there needs to be a good balance between pre-teaching vocabulary and letting the students deduce meaning from context.
