Posted by: EF English First Padang

EF English First Padang, West Sumatera, Indonesia is seeking qualified native speaking English teachers for Young Learners and Adults, available to teach in March 2006.

About the city:
Indonesia is one of the most beautiful and fascinating nations in the world. Situated on West Sumatera, Padang, as a capital city of West Sumatera, is ideally located for visits to Bukittinggi, Mentawai island, the other small islands around Mentawai, Maninjau Lake, Singkarak Lake, many nice beaches, many mountains, and also to the rest of Asia (Malaysia and Singapore). There are beautiful beaches to the north and south from where you can charter a boat to one (or more) of the peaceful uninhabited islands. The Mentawai islands are popular with surfers from all over the world. Two hours away from Padang, there is Bukittinggi (high hill), a popular city among tourists with cool mountain air and pretty features and nearby Lake Maninjau is a haven of peace and tranquility and there's lots more places to discover where hardly any tourists go, simply because they're not in any of the popular guide books. Padang is acknowledged as one of the most attractive towns in Sumatera and has some lovely old Minangkabau architecture and culture. Compared to other Indonesian cities of that size, Padang (pop about 800, 000) is very clean and has wide tree lined streets, very leafy indeed. It is also generally known as an educational centre with large numbers of university students living in the city and its ethnically diverse population is known to be very friendly and tolerant. English First Padang is located in the heart of Padang and just minutes away from the Indian Ocean.

Below you can read feedback from an ITTT graduate regarding one section of their online TEFL certification course. Each of our online courses is broken down into concise units that focus on specific areas of English language teaching.

Conditionals and reported speech is something that comes quite natural for native English speakers, but maybe something that does not come as simple for students learning English. Role-play will be a very useful teaching technique to help students understand these conditionals and reported speech. Although conditionals will be quite confusing to some repetition is often the best way to consolidate this sort of knowledge. This unit has taught me a lot about reported speech and how I can approach the topic when teaching my students in the future. I also learnt about conditional and the different forms they take, difficulties students may face and how I can better prepare myself for those. Finally I believe that conditionals and reported speech form a very important part of student's grammar since they will use them when talking or writing.
