Teach English in Pekanbaru, Indonesia

Date posted:2005-12-07 | Writer: GEC English Center | Email: [email protected]

This Is GEC:

If you*re the adventurous sort seeking the thrills of earthquakes, tsunamis, volcanoes and terrorists, then you probably shouldn*t come here. We are a small privately-owned school in Pekanbaru, Indonesia on the island of Sumatra. We are looking to hire teachers with a hardy constitution, a good sense of humor, ability to adapt to chaotic situation, and most of all, a love of teaching.

Please write to us if you:
* Are from an English speaking country (U.S., UK, Canada, Wales, Ireland, Scotland, Australia, New Zealand, or South Africa).
* Are over 25 years of age.
* Possess a 4 year degree in any subject from an accredited University or college.
* Have at least one year of teaching English in a foreign country

About the city:
Pekanbaru is a small city in the heart of the jungle. Far from being a tourist magnet, it is a quiet city built around the oil industry. It*s clean and hosts a wealth of shops and malls. The weather is hot and humid year round, and while there are mosquitoes, the city is malaria- free

Getting here and away:
Pekanbaru lies on the Siak River with daily ferries to Singapore, Malaysia and other parts of Indonesia for as little as US. $20.00. We can also be reached by air with flights from Singapore (US. $40.00) and Jakarta (US. $20.00) as well as other destinations. The city is within driving distance from more commercially tourist areas which boast beautiful mountains and beaches.

About the school:
We have only been open 7 months and have seen our student numbers grow dramatically. Like anything new, we are experiencing growing pains, and are still making changes to our programs. While we are still a business, we differ from Franchise schools in that we are student-centered and flexible with respect to the wants of the students and the individual teaching styles. The atmosphere at school, while professional, is very informal with staff and teachers like family. We have students between the ages of 3 and 65 and offer basic grammar, conversation, TOEFL/TOEIC/IELTS, business and professional classes.

We offer the teachers:
* A monthly salary of 7 million Rupiahs.
* Reimbursement of all travel expenses after 6 months.
* All visa expenses.
* Free furnished accommodation.
* Free laundry and maid service.
* 100% medical insurance.
* A monthly food allowance of 1 million Rupiahs.
* A return air ticket after 1 year.
* 6-8 weeks paid vacation
* a substantial bonus on re-signing for an additional year.

Candidates should expect to work 30 teaching hours per week for the first 3 months and 25 teaching hours per week thereafter.

If you are looking to pay off student loans or save for the future, then this isn*t the place for you. We pay a higher than normal salary for Indonesia, but this doesn*t compare with Western standards. Our starting salary is appreciable when compared with that of a doctor (2 million Rupiahs) or a school principal (1.5 million Rupiahs), and should allow you to live like a king or queen.

If working in a place like this appeals to you and you*re not fazed by the occasional chaos, then please4 email us at the address below with a brief note introducing yourself. Please attach a copy of your resume/CV, copy of your degree, picture page of your passport and 2 references.

Otherwise any questions you may have will be gladly answered.

Thank you

Below you can read feedback from an ITTT graduate regarding one section of their online TEFL certification course. Each of our online courses is broken down into concise units that focus on specific areas of English language teaching.

Nice unit. A little bit boring but nevertheless informative. I like it how you suggest to use test to see student's motivation. Will use it in my work without any doubts. Anyway tests are very needed so according to the unit I'll try to make them not so boring for students. Also I've never done a tutorial with my students as well as evaluation by students. It really sounds like a good method to improve level of education.In the first unit, I learned that there are many different categories of learners and it is the teacher's job to tailor their lessons and teaching style to the students. A teacher must take into consideration many aspects of the classroom environment, and alternate between different roles to be effective. To operate effectively in the classroom, a clear understanding of the students and the culture at large is imperative.
