The Central European Teaching Program (CETP) is an organisation established in 1990, and it provides ESL teachers to Hungarian schools. CETP accepts both men and women into their teaching program.


Required Degrees: Bachelor’s degree plus TEFL certification

Fields of Expertise: ESL/EFL ,  Elementary ,  ESL to Children ,  Kindergarten .



Specific requirements for applicants:

1. Citizenship: Applicants must be citizens of the United States, Canada, the European Union (EU), or the United Kingdom.

2. Native English Speakers: All applicants must be native English speakers.

3. Health and Hearing: Applicants should be in good health and have good hearing.

4. Education and Certification: All placements require candidates to have a bachelor’s degree and TEFL (Teaching English as a Foreign Language) certification.

To apply for the CETP program, interested candidates need to send a brief letter of introduction along with their teaching resume. If the initial application is successful, CETP will set up a time to discuss the program in more detail.

The program fee for an academic year (September to July) varies based on the type of school:

- High schools and Budapest and environs elementary schools: $2,500.

- Non-Budapest elementary schools: $1,900.


It’s important to note that these fees are not placement fees, but rather program fees to allow us to offer a range of services and benefits, including:

1. Assistance with obtaining residence and work permits to live and teach in Hungary.

2. A private, fully furnished apartment with utilities paid as part of the salary package.

3. Hungarian government medical coverage.

4. Weeklong orientation.

5. The national Hungarian teacher’s salary (paid in Hungarian forints but currently equates to $1240 US per month

6. 24/7 support from an experienced Hungarian director.

7. Waiver of Hungarian income tax, a savings of $220/month and roughly equivalent to the program fee.

8. Salary, apartment, and paid utilities, including through the summer vacation months for teachers continuing at the same school.

9. Access to Facebook group for teaching tips, travel information, and support.


These benefits are designed to make the teaching experience in Hungary more comfortable and financially sustainable for program participants. If you meet the eligibility criteria and are interested in teaching in Hungary through CETP, you can proceed with the application process as outlined in their requirements.


WE ACCEPT APPLICATIONS YEAR-ROUND

CETP strongly recommends that you apply early for teaching placements. Even if you feel you still need to get more teaching experience, or are considering various “work abroad” programs, it is a good idea to apply to CETP well in advance so that we can begin lining up the best possible placement for you.

To apply:

  2. Complete the application forms and contract, saving them again whenever you make a change.

  3. Print and mail the completed packet, contract, and a check for the enrollment fee to: CETP, 3841 NE 68th Avenue, Portland, OR 97213.

You may mail the required transcripts and other documentation separately. However, for your application to be official, you must include a check for the enrollment fee ($700). This fee is included as part of your applicable program fee, and is fully refundable up until the beginning of June.
