MAXIMO NIVEL -- An executive language center with offices in Costa Rica and Peru is actively recruiting TEFL Teachers for its COSTA RICA learning center.

DESCRIPTION

•Our teachers earn fixed monthly salaries between $650 to $750 (USD). This is more than enough to live comfortably in Costa Rica. We pay our teachers on the 15th and 30th of every month.

•Our teachers generally teach 5 classes per day (90 minutes each), Monday-Thursday.

Most teachers teach 1-3 classes in the morning and then teach 2-3 classes beginning late afternoon and into the evening. This provides a long break during the day, and there’s plenty of time to enjoy the city, the gym, get personal errands done, or just relax.

•Our class size is strictly limited to 8 people.

•We offer classes for both adults and children. We do NOT mix adults and children in the same class. The majority of our client-students are adults and the average age is 27.

•Our first class begins at 7:00am and the last class ends at 9:00pm. We teach regular classes Monday to Thursday. Teachers teach only 1 Friday per month, and the rest of the weekends are 3-day weekends.

•Máximo Nivel is located in a modern office building just 15 minutes from the center of San Jose. We are located in a mixed residental-commerical neighborhood (San Pedro) which is very nice, safe, and secure. We are just 5 minutes from two of the largest universities in Cost Rica.

REQUIREMENTS

•Minimum Qualification: Bachelor's Degree + TESOL, TEFL, or CELTA

•Minimum Age: 21 years

We pride ourselves on our teachers, and it is important that you take pride in your teaching. We do not hire tourists for short-term positions; we specifically look for professionals with a passion for teaching. We stress three things in our classrooms: 1) professionalism, 2) chemistry with our client-students, and 3) Student Talk Time (STT). We are a fun, but very hard-working and professional group – and these are the kind of people we want to work with us.

COMPENSATION

•6 month minimum contract is required

•Salary is $650 to $750 per month

•Teachers receive a bonus after 12 months – currently this is $500 (USD).

•Private classes and merit-based increases also provide opportunities to earn higher salaries

•Salary is paid on the 15th and 30th of each month

The minimum contract length is 6 months. If you plan to spend less than 6 months in Costa Rica, please do not reply to this posting. When joining Máximo Nivel, the contract you sign requires you to pay $500 if you terminate your contract early. Please understand that we take our teaching and our student-service very seriously, and we gear our contracts to avoid teachers who do not plan to devote significant energy and commitment to their teaching.

Below you can read feedback from an ITTT graduate regarding one section of their online TEFL certification course. Each of our online courses is broken down into concise units that focus on specific areas of English language teaching.

Another short, sharp unit and quite helpful. The dos and don'ts for teaching both the beginners class and the business class were good reminders of what makes a good ESL, a good any teacher: be respectful, be aware, be creative, be engaged, engage your students, and keep it interesting. I especially like the needs analysis for the business class as it gives ownership and accountability to the motivated students. This section was a little more difficult than I expected. It is hard to remember some of the grammar rules and information that I learned a long time ago, and then harder to think about how to teach it to someone who does not speak English naturally. I have heard from several non-English speakers that English is one of the hardest languages to learn--now that I see how difficult it is to teach, I believe them!
