Plymouth College of Further Education has two vacancies for native-speaking English teachers at its vibrant partner high school in Anshan, Liaoning, north-east China. The successful applicants will teach 16-18year olds who aspire to future success in IELTs examinations. The friendly high school is a key institution ranked second best out of 250 high schools in the city, with commensurate pupils of ability and commitment. Applicants must be educated to higher education standard, and a teaching qualification and practical experience are desirable, but not essential. Applicants should be aged between 23-55years. More important is the ability to run lively, interesting classes that engage the students in active learning, within a culturally authentic context - didactic grammar teachers need not apply. An enthusiasm to experience Chinese culture would also be a favourable pre-requisite. The package on offer is 6, 000RMB per month for 22hours per week teaching, optional overtime at 80RMB per 40minute class, free meals, excellent free on-site single-occupancy accommodation that is en-suite, and equipped with all mod-cons including free computer and Internet, TV, microwave and washing machine. Perhaps the greatest part of the package is the warmest of welcomes from the school, its staff and pupils. The initial contract would be 11months from early August 2006, with the option of continuing thereafter. The successful applicant would need to pay their own airfare to China, but would have their return airfare paid by the school. Applicants must have at least 12 months remaining on their current passport. Interested parties should forward their CV, passport photo, and copy certificates to John Middleton at [email protected] .

Below you can read feedback from an ITTT graduate regarding one section of their online TEFL certification course. Each of our online courses is broken down into concise units that focus on specific areas of English language teaching.

I learned that relationships with the students are the most important thing. Teachers must love their students and be totally happy teaching them, and learning from them. In addition, I learned that Teachers must be good examples/models and also must listen to their students. Teachers should be open and welcoming, not overly critical because it is vital to be a constructive teacher in all ways and methods available. This unit we learned about the other possible classroom setting we could be placed in. I found it very helpful because I would prefer to be placed with the young kids and beginners. I have a passion for children, I work in the local school at home (LBUSD) as a behavioral aide for kids with Autism and love it. Teaching kids would be my preference, but these units are great preparation for any classroom I'll be assigned.
