Date posted:2011-05-10 | Writer: Total Learning Academy | Email: [email protected]

In the seven years since our founding, Total Learning Academy has expanded to 8 branches, 2000 students, and nearly 300 teachers. We focus on experiential learning, high academic standards, service to community, participatory activities, and empowerment of local Myanmar teachers, students, staff, and parents. We also believe in reflective teaching, and our instructors work collaboratively at all levels to continuously evaluate and improve student learning.

We are happy to announce that we will be hiring native speakers to join our dedicated team. We are looking for people who are passionate about teaching and open to experiencing a new culture and environment. Teachers will have up to 24 hours of contact hours, which will include separate English lessons for students as well as for local teachers at our academy. Teachers will also be expected to participate in all branch activities, including meetings, activities, assemblies, trainings, and other functions. Other job duties may include editing written English and giving training or presentations several times per year. For those candidates that meet our qualifications, we are prepared to offer one or two year contracts.

Qualifications
Applicants should have at least one year's experience living outside their home country and have also spent extensive time in a developing country. We expect all of our teachers to behave appropriately as a member of Total Learning Academy both within and outside of school contexts while in Myanmar. We will give special preference to those candidates who have higher degrees in education, and additional years of teaching/training experience as well as time in foreign cultures.

We are currently hiring for the following positions:
1. Candidates who have at least one year teaching English as a second or foreign language and an SIT TESOL Certificate or equivalent. They should be comfortable teaching English to all ages, including young learners.
2. Candidates who have at least 2 years experience teaching a content area at the K-12 level.

Salary/Benefits
For those applicants to whom we offer a one or two year contract, we will provide a competitive salary based on experience, qualifications, and motivation in playing a leading role. We provide a nearby apartment with basic furnishings, maid and cook services, maintenance, and utilities. We also offer the following: all visa costs, school lunches and transportation, basic medical insurance, paid vacation, family support, and orientation and ongoing culture and language classes. We will cover the arrival flight to Myanmar from the applicant’s residing location, and will purchase a return ticket upon successful completion of the contact. If a new contract is accepted, we will provide home leave as well as a bonus.

Application Process
If you are interested in joining our dedicated team at Total, please send a cover letter, your resume, and letters of recommendation to our Human Resources Department at the e-mail address given on the job heading.

Below you can read feedback from an ITTT graduate regarding one section of their online TEFL certification course. Each of our online courses is broken down into concise units that focus on specific areas of English language teaching.

The future tenses are complicated as there are seven areas that one must learn to use the future tense. However, there are two that are the most common. They are the Be going + infinitve and the present continuous. I imagine this unit is a challenging topic to teach and to learn as it is a lot of information. I liked the ideas that are suggested in the unit reading, and would probably use many of them.I have to be honest, this one was pretty tough. The first few test gave me the impression that this course would be easy, this last one has changed my mind. Trying to lock down an understanding of the different present tenses and then recognizing them when read was tricky. I feel like I have heard this lesson before. It all sounds vaguely familiar but nevertheless I feel as though I learned a great deal.
