What makes TEFL accredited?

A TEFL course is accredited when an independent organization has evaluated the course provider and confirmed that the training meets specific quality standards. This typically includes reviewing the curriculum, number of study hours, tutor or trainer qualifications, assessment methods, student support, and certificate issuing process. Accreditation helps show that the course is structured, professionally delivered, and suitable for preparing teachers to teach English as a foreign language. In practical terms, many employers look for a TEFL certificate that includes at least 120 hours of training, covers key areas such as grammar, lesson planning, classroom management, teaching skills, and language awareness, and comes from a reputable provider. Some employers may also prefer courses that include observed teaching practice, especially for competitive classroom-based positions. It is important to understand that there is no single worldwide TEFL accrediting authority. Different providers may be reviewed by different bodies, and requirements can vary by school, country, and employer. Before enrolling, check who accredits or validates the course, what the course includes, and whether the certificate is widely accepted for the type of teaching job you want. Providers such as ITTT offer TEFL and TESOL certification options designed for new and experienced teachers, but you should always compare course hours, content, support, and employer expectations before choosing a program.
