Can I teach English in airports?
Teaching English in airports is possible, although it is less common than teaching in language schools, universities, or online. Most airport-related English teaching jobs focus on workplace communication rather than general English. You might teach airline employees, airport customer service staff, immigration or security personnel, retail workers, or ground operations teams who need English for interacting with international travelers.
There is also a specialized field called aviation English. This is often used by pilots, air traffic controllers, and aviation professionals who must communicate clearly and accurately in English. These positions can be more demanding and may require knowledge of aviation terminology, ICAO language standards, or previous experience in the aviation industry.
For most airport staff training roles, a TEFL or TESOL certification is a useful starting point. ITTT offers online TEFL and TESOL courses that can help you build a foundation in lesson planning, classroom management, grammar, and teaching practical communication skills. Experience teaching business English or English for specific purposes can also strengthen your application.
To find these jobs, look for corporate training companies, airline training departments, aviation academies, airport contractors, and language schools that provide workplace English programs. While airport-based teaching is a niche path, it can be a rewarding option for teachers interested in travel, tourism, customer service, and professional English.
