Can I notarize my TEFL certificate?

Yes, a TEFL certificate can often be notarized, but the process depends on who issued the certificate and where you need to present it. Notarization usually confirms the authenticity of a signature or a copy of a document; it does not automatically confirm the academic value of the certificate. For international use, some schools, recruiters, or government offices may request additional steps, such as an apostille or embassy legalization, depending on the destination country’s requirements. If you earned your TEFL certification through ITTT, the best first step is to contact ITTT directly and explain what your employer or authority is asking for. Requirements can vary widely, so it is helpful to ask the receiving organization exactly what they need: a notarized copy, a verification letter, an apostilled document, or another form of authentication. Before paying for notarization, confirm whether the notary must be in a specific country or whether a copy of the certificate is acceptable. Some institutions require original documents, while others accept certified copies or direct verification from the course provider. Because document rules differ by country and employer, checking requirements in advance can save time and prevent delays in your teaching application.
