This video covers the difference between 'adapt' and 'adopt'. Due to their similar spelling, their usage is often confused. 'Adapt' describes the action of taking something and changing it for a special purpose, for example: A screenwriter successfully adapts the book to make it work as a movie. The word 'adopt', on the other hand, refers to the action of taking something and using it or making it your own, such as here: Because they couldn't have children of their own, they decided to adopt a child.

This unit was very intriguing. There are a great deal of grammar rules that I didn't even think about as a native English speaker that could be problematic for those speaking English as a second language. This is especially true for directed to reported speech. One cannot simply translate directed speech to reported speech. I never heard of those rules throughout my schooling.I think overall it was very informative, although quite basic and to be honest a lot of the answers are common sense, I am a bit surprised . I would have thought it would have had a lot more in depth explanation and subsequent testing . I am really hoping the other lessons and tests teach much more and therefore give us more knowledge for taking on the task of teaching English.
