CEFR

CEFR: Common European Framework of Reference for Languages
This system was designed by the Council of Europe in order to provide a standardised method for comparing the levels of language proficiency represented by different examinations and assessments throughout Europe and other areas. The system divides language proficiency into six separate levels and can be used in conjunction with any European language. The six levels that make up the framework each have a description of the abilities required to achieve that level based on speaking, reading, writing and listening skills. The CEFR system is becoming widely known as the European standard for grading an individual?s language proficiency.

Below you can read feedback from an ITTT graduate regarding one section of their online TEFL certification course. Each of our online courses is broken down into concise units that focus on specific areas of English language teaching. This convenient, highly structured design means that you can quickly get to grips with each section before moving onto the next.

I learnt about the many different types of test that schools and teachers use; such as placement tests, diagnostic tests, progress tests, practice tests and general external examinations. I also learnt about Cambridge Assessment, the different features and broad range of assessments involved. This Unit was insightful. The information presented will be useful for recommendations. This unit focuses on teaching equipment and aids such as Videos, Visual Aids, Cassettes, etc. that are instrumental to supporting the teaching of English as a second language. The unit explains how each tool is able to assist and convey the lesson and support the lesson plan. The unit also provides examples of activities that can be used to incorporate each resource effectively.
