The Influence of English on a Student's Career
In the following essay, I will explain the importance of the English language for three important phases of a student's future, beyond secondary education. English has become the de facto standard language for communication at a global level. After Mandarin Chinese and Spanish, it is the third most prevalent native language on the planet, as well as the most amply spoken second language and the official language of many international organizations and businesses. It works as a common trade language since it allows two foreign people to communicate, based on its global reach.

English as a global language Before English can be given the status of ?global language?, I think the term must be defined so we know the grounds to this statement. I don?t think that the term can be defined only by how many countries that use English as their mother tongue or how many people speak the language as their first. If that were the case, English could easily be compared to Spanish, Mandarin, and Hindi, which in fact have more native speakers of the... [Read more]

Why Non-Native English Speakers Can be Good TEFL Teachers
As a Belgian born citizen, I was brought up with different languages. Belgium is officially a trilingual country: French, Dutch, and German are all official languages. Dutch is my mother tongue, I have been learning French since primary school. Later, in high school, German and English were added to my curriculum and in college, I extended my language skills by taking a Spanish course. This means I have been studying foreign languages since primary school until my university degree when I was 25 years old. This made me decide to write on the following topic: why non-native English speakers can be good TEFL teachers.

English is considered a universal language, mainly because it is widely spoken all over the world. English was originally the language of England. Its expansion became imperative due to the dominance in world trade, religion, technology, tourism, education and so on. English as a Tool for Global Communication
First of all, let us define the meaning of the phrase "global language"? I suppose a "global language" is the language suitable for communication among a huge amount of people around the world. We also can say it is the language of global meaning.
