How to Live in a Dry Cabin - Survival tactics for the English Teacher living in Remote Places
As an English teacher, you may find yourself accepting the call to teach in a remote village or town in any part of the world where the inhabitants are more or less secluded from urban society. Often you may also find that the house you move into is a dry cabin.
What is a Dry cabin?
A dry cabin is when a house has no well or septic and yet is deemed livable—my experience in a dry cabin.
I used to live in a dry cabin because, in Alaska, there are many dry cabins. My house was clean, neat, and cozy, and at first sight, you would never have guessed it to be a dry cabin. It was fun to live there, and it helped me to... [Read more]

Where can I get a digital nomad visa for teaching English online?
Teaching English online is a popular option for TEFL qualified teachers as it comes with greater freedom than you would typically get working for an on-site school or language center. Many teachers prefer the convenience of working from their own home and the flexibility of deciding for themselves exactly when they work and for how long. However, teaching English online can also be done from any location with a good internet connection, which allows you to travel from place to place or stay in one location of your choice.
remote working has now become mainstream and several countries have begun issuing digital nomad visas which allow you to stay long-term even though your work is with English students that can be located... [Read more]

Teaching English in Indigenous ESL Classrooms in Remote Parts of Australia
Whilst the focus of this essay is on the teaching of English to indigenous students in remote parts of Australia where English is in all likelihood, not the first language, all situations are relevant in which the local; indigenous population forms a significant part of the local community. For instance, the writer teaches at a secondary school in south-east Queensland, in a town where some 10% of students are of Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander descent. This is less than an hour’s drive from the state capital, Brisbane, to the north-east, and a similar distance from Australia’s sixth-largest city, Gold Coast, so is not remote, as so many towns,... The Role of the EFL Teacher in Mitigating the Obstacle of Illiteracy in English Language Learning
