Review from TEFL Student Alistair
Alistair thinks the in-class course in Phuket is a life-changing experience. He thinks the course is fast-paced and keeps you on track of reaching your goal of becoming a certified EFL teacher. He thinks the value for money is great due to the amazing support and assistance he has received during the course. He also greatly enjoys life in Thailand and is thinking of staying there to pursue a teaching career in English as a Foreign Language. He feels like he has gained enough experience during his training to live abroad and teach English worldwide.

3 Awesome Reasons to Become an EFL Teacher Abroad
A teacher, in general, has the direct opportunity to make a difference and to change the future. As a teacher, you will expect every one of your students to want to learn and more importantly to understand. You want your students to fight over the seats in the front row as if they were attending a concert, not elementary school. You want to make your students wonder, make them question, make them think critically, make them write and of course to make them read.

Although teaching English abroad is often considered to be reserved for the young and single among us, this is far from the actual truth. In countries all over the world you will find teachers who have moved overseas with their family. While it might involve a little more planning than for a single teacher, it certainly doesn’t have to be a barrier that stops you fulfilling your dream of teaching English as a foreign language.

How to Become an ESL Teacher
In the world, there are many different professions that people dream of. If you ask someone to name some of them, they probably would say something like a doctor, teacher, singer, and so on. When I was a child, my dad wanted me to become a teacher. He thought that becoming a teacher was a great job. Not just him, but many other people also thought so. It has always been like that. Back then, I was too young to understand the reason. But now that I have become a teacher, I am starting to realize why my dad and everyone else liked it.

Striking Reasons to Obtain a TEFL Training
I recently discovered that in countries where English is not the natively spoken language, there is a great demand for learning the English language. Thinking about this fact, and remembering my many friends from high-school and university whose native languages are not English and who consequently took many ESL classes to improve their English, I began thinking about the possibility of becoming an ESL/ EFL teacher. Having been a teacher in the past, this strengthened my belief in myself that this is something that I could do. So I began looking into the possibility a little more.

From Student to Teacher - My Language Journey
It was the last day of Japanese class and my teacher’s last day of teaching at our school. We were all standing up getting ready to bow him one last time. It was dead quiet but I could still hear sniffles around me and felt the sadness of the moment. I never thought I would care so much about a teacher leaving. To this day, the words and wisdom my Japanese teacher taught me still ring in my head. Flash forward to a few years ago, I went to Japan for the first time, after a hiatus of not studying Japanese, but amazingly I still had all the skills my teacher had taught me in high school. How did this person have such an impact on me? The answer I have come to realize is that because... [Read more]

The Significance and Benefits of Completing a TEFL Course
Is formal education and training such as a TEFL course necessary to be an effective and successful teacher of English? Some may argue that as long as there is a sound knowledge of the subject, teaching English especially to speakers of other languages is easy and straightforward. However, exhibiting knowledge of a subject matter is very different from having the ability to teach the subject to other people. To become a good teacher, there are specific qualities, skills, and techniques that must be demonstrated and applied in teaching. A TEFL course or certificate can provide and encourage these skills and techniques to achieve successful language teaching.

Qualities of a Good ESL Teacher
Becoming a teacher of any nature requires a good amount of skills, but becoming an English as a foreign or second language teacher requires a special batch of skills. All types of teachers should have the same general qualities; communication skills, patience, good listening skills, the ability to connect and build relationships with students, hard work ethic, preparation, and organization, and be friendly, personable, and approachable. Being a teacher means interacting with people for most of, or part of the day, and understandably sharing your knowledge, with the students.

Why Teaching Business English Isn’t As Difficult As It Seems
As a former teacher of English as a foreign language, I have some experience teaching business English. Majority of my classes were for general English conversation. However, as I continued teaching, my workload increased to include a few business-focused classes. At first, I was intimidated and nervous about teaching these students. Did I have enough knowledge about business to teach them? Would I have the information they needed? After a lot of preparation and a few lessons, I realized that business classes are not much different than regular English classes and I need not know much about business to be a successful business English teacher.

Teaching Skills in the ESL Classroom
There is no doubt that most people have no idea what is involved in becoming a teacher. I think this is particularly true of native English speakers imagining they can teach English to foreign students. I fell into this category until I started the course. What became apparent straight away is that teaching techniques have varied greatly over time, with some methods being more successful than others. The relatively recent ESL method incorporates some previous teaching strategies but succeeds above them all in effectiveness because it gives teachers the best chance to teach, whilst giving students the desired motivation to learn.
