Classroom management is still considered an essential part of teaching and learning activities. It may vary in arrangement and development. It refers to the infrastructure, space, lights, furniture, boards, etc. and the methods, strategies, and skills that teachers use to maintain a classroom environment which results in success for the students.... What is TEFL level 7?
When choosing the right TEFL course to suit your future plans, it is important to understand the different levels of study involved so you are able to pick the right option that provides the qualifications you really need. While a level 3 course can be completed quite quickly and at a very affordable price, it might not give you the level of qualification that employers are looking for in your chosen destination. Equally, if you plan to volunteer as a teacher or work as a teaching assistant, a level 8 Master’s degree in TEFL will involve a bit more time, effort, and money than you really need to be investing.

TEFL Interview
So you’ve completed your TEFL course and started applying for jobs in your dream destination country? The next step on becoming a successful English teacher is the TEFL interview.
Interviews for teaching jobs can take a couple of different formats and these are face-to-face, over the phone, or via Skype. Each type of interview has its own particular points that need addressing. For face-to-face interviews it is important to be early but not too early make sure that you research the route to the school before the interview day. You must remember to dress smartly; many teaching jobs are in holiday destinations and some people seem to forget the difference between what is suitable for work and what is suitable for the beach. If you are being interviewed over the phone,... [Read more]

Group Teaching or One-to-One: What Will You Choose?
Teaching a group or having private lessons can be as beneficial as challenging. Let’s try to understand which kind of teaching is more suitable for us.
This post was written by our ITTT graduate Catalina R.
Advantages of Group Teaching
Teaching large classes has many advantages. A large class offers a greater variety of activities. The teacher can have students work alone, in pairs, in groups or as a class. This allows the focus to be placed on the students instead of the teacher. Pair or group work helps motivate the students because they share their doubts and ideas in a safe environment among peers. It can also challenge students because the weaker students will become better... [Read more]

What traits should an EFL teacher have in teaching one-to-one Business English?
.As I learned from the 50-hour CTBE course, teaching business English always involves one-to-one mode. Imagine there is a student who is a high profile business person in China. He needs to learn English for his own Business work and he prefers one-to-one lessons. Then, what traits should an EFL teacher have in order to get this teaching job? In this essay, I would like to use this case to discuss some attributes that a businessman would seek in an EFL teacher and why he would demand those traits.

Is Taking a TEFL/TESOL Course Really Worth it?
TEFL and TESOL - these two terms are often used interchangeably; however, some areas of the world prefer to use one or the other. For example, the TEFL term is most commonly used within the UK, and the TESOL term is usually preferred in the USA. Although some countries may prefer one acronym over the other, a TEFL certification and a TESOL certification are practically the same thing, and the training programs for both are usually identical.
One way to describe the difference between these two terms is as follows:
The term TEFL refers to teaching English to non-English speakers in a country where English is not generally spoken. An example would be... [Read more]

Was/Were Board Game
This fun activity helps your students practice the verb to be in the past simple by playing a board game where they give true or false answers to questions.
How to play
Give each group of three or four a copy of the game board, a set of true or false cards, a dice and counters. The students shuffle the cards and place them face down in a pile next to the game board. The players then take it in turns to roll the dice and move their counter along the board. When a player lands on a square, they pick up a true or false card from the pile and look at it, without showing it to anyone. The player then answers the question on the square using was or were by giving either true or false information as... [Read more]

The Lowdown on Teaching English Abroad With a Family
If you do a quick online search for teaching English abroad, it would be easy to assume that it is only an option for young, single people. However, this is far from the truth, as there are countless thousands of people of all ages who are currently teaching abroad with their families. Many parents see it as a great opportunity to provide their children with an international education that is far removed from the one-dimensional option that most of us experience in our home country. Although moving abroad to teach English as a family is a great option for many people, there are obviously several things to consider before jumping on a plane.

Is Teaching an Innate Gift or an Acquired Skill?
“Everyone who remembers his education remembers teachers, not methods, and or techniques. The teacher is the heart of the educational system” – Sidney Hook. Teaching is as ancient as time and its ways of imparting knowledge have evolved throughout the centuries. Past behind are those days when children were considered wicked and in need to be reformed (Hobbes’ view). Likewise, it stopped being a one-way relationship where teachers had a dominant position and students were just mere recipients of data. Looking back at my school days, I compare teaching now and then. And even though roles and methods have made a 180 degrees turn, it has made me wonder why I can’t remember... [Read more]

The Importance of Grammar and How We Teach it
Teaching grammar is one of the most challenging things for a teacher of English. As a student, it is essential to learn grammar as this gives you accuracy both in writing and speaking. This applies to every language, not only to English.
