TEFL Volunteering in Peru

Date posted:2012-11-29 | Writer: Máximo Nivel | Email: [email protected]

Máximo Nivel’s volunteer projects in teaching English offer TEFL volunteers ample opportunity to explore day-to-day life in Costa Rica, Guatemala, and Peru while helping young students improve their English skills. Work includes teaching English (grammar, vocabulary, pronunciation, speaking, writing, listening, etc.) to primary, middle, and high school students 2-4 hours per day.

Most volunteers work in the English Learning Rooms at small community centers, orphanages, or shelters for street children. At these projects, volunteers help teach regular English classes and also tutor the children and help them with their homework.

Benefits include:

Orientation and 24 hour support from our qualified staff

Certified, native Spanish teacher

Free Spanish textbook and materials

Free Tandem Conversation Program

Volunteer service certificate

Letter of recommendation

Free access to high-speed Internet and computers

Free Salsa lessons

Free coffee and tea

Monthly International Party with open bar

Emergency contact number 24/7

Most volunteers stay at The Family House or a traditional family-stay. Both of these options include 3 meals per day Monday – Sunday. Contact us at the e-mail address given on the job heading for full details of our programs.

Below you can read feedback from an ITTT graduate regarding one section of their online TEFL certification course. Each of our online courses is broken down into concise units that focus on specific areas of English language teaching.

In this unit I learned about the equipment and teaching aids. To name a few: white/black board and the importance for all board work to be organised and planned, Interactive whiteboard they are increasingly being used, visual aids being the most common pictures, real objects and photos, CD player, video camera, etc. As well as the online sources such as Youtube, dictionaries, literature and poetry. To me this unit was an overview of things I felt like I already knew, but never really had explained. In my mind I knew what a good teacher and student were like. However, I could not explain that image very well because I lacked terms and structure. Now I know the difference between a manager role and a tutor role. Also, I am starting to understand how I can use those roles to help students learn.
