Opportunities For EFL Teachers in Costa Rica

Date posted:2016-11-17 | Writer: EVOLC | Email: [email protected]

English Volunteers for Change (EVOLC) is a unique non-profit volunteer program which was established by ALIARSE and Costa Rica Multilingüe, a government sponsored initiative that seeks to create a bilingual Costa Rica by 2020. We have regular opportunities for TEFL graduates who want to develop their skills. We are constantly working to provide volunteers with experiences that are fully funded by local sponsors. Our volunteers contribute to the sustainable development of the continuously thriving tourism sector in Costa Rica as well as impoverished rural and urban communities, positively affecting the lives of students, teachers and community members.

Our next camps will be held at the start of January 2017 in San Jose, and rural communities of Costa Rica from January 2nd- February 3rd. These ESL Camps provide intensive English instruction to students who are beginning high school (7th grade). These students, usually from rural areas, have had little or no previous English instruction and therefore start high school lagging behind other students academically, and are at greater risk for dropping out. The camps are sponsored by local foundations who want to give Costa Rican kids and teenagers a chance to improve their English either before entering high school, or before graduating.

Volunteer teachers will work with 20 kids from 8am-2pm Monday through Friday, with weekends free to explore! English Volunteers for Change provides the curriculum with lesson plans and all materials so volunteers know what to teach each day.

Below you can read feedback from an ITTT graduate regarding one section of their online TEFL certification course. Each of our online courses is broken down into concise units that focus on specific areas of English language teaching.

In this unit i learned about different forms of past tenses there are four forms of past tenses past simple, past continuous, past perfect, past perfect continuous how these different forms are use for different language and they all have different usage how to use these different usage in different sentences after reading this unit my doubts clear regarding different forms of past tensesThis unit was insightful regarding the selection of study materials. What to look for when you have potentially selected a course book and how to supplement the study material correctly. It is also important to not always stick to the guidelines of this one book, as it can make the teacher lazy. This will lead to the students losing interest and not getting the full value of their class.
