Which TEFL destinations pay most?

TEFL destinations with the highest pay are usually those with strong demand for English teachers, higher living costs, or more competitive hiring requirements. Among ITTT’s active in-class course locations, Seoul, South Korea, and Tokyo or Nagoya, Japan, are often among the better-paying options. These markets may offer positions in private language schools, public programs, universities, or corporate training, depending on your qualifications and experience. New York City can also have higher hourly rates, but the cost of living is significant, so take-home savings may not be as strong as the salary suggests. In contrast, destinations such as Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam; Bangkok or Hua Hin, Thailand; and Phnom Penh, Cambodia may offer lower salaries on paper, but everyday expenses can also be lower, which may help teachers live comfortably. When comparing TEFL destinations, look beyond the monthly salary. Housing support, airfare reimbursement, paid vacation, health insurance, contract hours, taxes, and local living costs all affect your real earning potential. A TEFL or TESOL certification from a provider such as ITTT can help you meet common entry requirements, but salaries and job offers are never guaranteed and vary by employer, location, and your background.
