Where can TEFL take me?
TEFL can take you in many directions, depending on your goals, qualifications, and the requirements of the country or employer you choose. Many teachers use TEFL certification to teach English abroad in language schools, public or private schools, summer programs, and tutoring settings. Others use it to teach English online from home or while traveling, giving them more flexibility in where and how they work.
If you are interested in classroom-based training before going overseas, ITTT offers in-class TEFL/TESOL courses in destinations such as Bangkok, Buenos Aires, Florence, Tokyo, Seoul, Cusco, New York City, and Rio de Janeiro, among others. These locations can give trainees practical experience and a taste of life in a different cultural setting.
TEFL can also lead to work with young learners, adults, business English students, exam preparation classes, or one-to-one lessons. Some teachers stay abroad long term, while others teach for a year, combine teaching with travel, or transition into online education.
While a TEFL certificate does not guarantee a job, visa, salary, or work permit, it can strengthen your profile and help you understand lesson planning, classroom management, grammar, and teaching methods. For many people, TEFL is a practical first step toward international experience, flexible teaching work, and meaningful cultural exchange.
