Is TEFL accepted worldwide?
TEFL certification is accepted in many countries worldwide and is one of the most common qualifications for teaching English to non-native speakers. A TEFL certificate can help you qualify for teaching positions in language schools, private schools, online platforms, and other educational settings. In general, employers tend to prefer a TEFL course of at least 120 hours, as this is often viewed as the standard level of training for entry-level English teachers.
That said, TEFL requirements are not exactly the same everywhere. Some employers may accept an online TEFL certificate, while others may prefer or require in-class training or observed teaching practice. In certain countries, a bachelor’s degree may be required for visa or work permit purposes, even if the school itself is happy to hire TEFL-certified teachers. Other factors, such as previous teaching experience, native or near-native English ability, and interview performance, can also affect your job prospects.
ITTT offers online TEFL and TESOL certification courses designed to prepare teachers for opportunities in many international and online teaching contexts. While no certificate can guarantee a job, visa, or specific salary, a recognized TEFL qualification is a strong starting point for teaching English abroad or online.
