Is TEFL accepted in Europe?

Yes, TEFL is accepted in Europe, especially for teaching English in private language schools, language academies, summer programs, tutoring, and online teaching roles. However, requirements can vary significantly from one country to another and from one employer to the next. In many European destinations, a 120-hour TEFL certificate is commonly considered the standard entry-level qualification for new English teachers. That said, TEFL certification alone may not be the only requirement. Some schools prefer or require a bachelor’s degree, previous teaching experience, or the legal right to work in the country. Visa and work permit rules also differ across Europe, so it is important to research the specific country where you want to teach. TEFL certification can strengthen your application, but it does not guarantee a job or immigration approval. ITTT offers online TEFL certification courses that are suitable for people preparing to teach in Europe or online. If you prefer classroom-based training, ITTT also has in-class TEFL/TESOL course options in approved European locations such as Florence, Italy, and Gran Canaria, Spain. Overall, TEFL is a recognized and useful qualification for teaching English in Europe, but your success will also depend on your background, location, timing, and employer requirements.
