How long does TEFL training take?

The length of TEFL training depends on the type of course you choose, how many hours it includes, and how much time you can study each week. The most widely accepted option is a 120-hour TEFL certification course, which provides a solid foundation in teaching methods, grammar awareness, lesson planning, classroom management, and teaching English language skills. For online TEFL courses, training is often self-paced. Some motivated learners complete a 120-hour course in a few weeks, while others spread their studies over several months to fit around work, school, or family commitments. With ITTT, online TEFL certification is designed to be flexible, making it suitable for both full-time students and busy professionals. In-class TEFL courses are usually more intensive and typically run over about four weeks, with daily training, observed teaching practice, and practical classroom experience. Shorter introductory TEFL courses may take only a few days, but they may not provide the same depth as a full certification program. If you are planning to teach English abroad or online, choosing a comprehensive TEFL course is generally better than rushing through the shortest option. The goal is not only to earn a certificate, but also to build the confidence and practical skills needed to teach effectively.
