How long does TEFL certification take?
The time it takes to complete TEFL certification depends on the type of course you choose and how much time you can study each week. The most common option is a 120-hour TEFL course, which is widely accepted by many schools and language centers. If you study regularly, you may be able to finish an online 120-hour course in about 2 to 6 weeks. Some students complete it faster, while others take several months because they are balancing work, school, or family commitments.
Online TEFL certification is often self-paced, so it gives you flexibility. This can be a good choice if you want to study around your own schedule or prepare for teaching English abroad or online. ITTT, for example, offers online TEFL and TESOL courses that allow trainees to work through the material at a pace that suits them.
In-class TEFL courses are usually more intensive and commonly take around 4 weeks to complete. These programs often include structured daily training and observed teaching practice, making them a strong option for people who prefer hands-on classroom learning.
In general, if you want to qualify efficiently, plan for about one month of focused study for a standard TEFL certification.
