Can TEFL get me a visa?
A TEFL certificate can be an important part of your plan to teach English abroad, but it does not automatically get you a visa. In most countries, visas and work permits are issued by government authorities, not by TEFL course providers. A TEFL certification may help you meet employer requirements for English teaching positions, and in some cases an employer may use your qualifications as part of a work visa or permit application.
However, visa eligibility depends on several factors, including the country where you want to teach, your passport, education level, age, background checks, health requirements, and whether a school is willing and legally able to sponsor you. Some countries require a bachelor’s degree for a standard work visa, while others may have more flexible options. Rules can also change, so it is always best to check the official immigration website or consult the hiring school before making plans.
ITTT’s TEFL and TESOL certification courses can help you build the training and credentials many employers look for, which may improve your chances of finding legitimate teaching opportunities. That said, no TEFL certificate can guarantee a job, visa, work permit, or immigration outcome. Think of TEFL as a valuable qualification that can support your application, not as a visa on its own.
